My operated leg feels long, weird and very stiff - how long before it starts feeling same length?
I am 4 weeks post op and my new hip leg is about 1 inch longer. Doc says it will even up....I have my doubts!
Not sure about length but my swelling, heaviness and stiffness started to ease after a week. To begin with I thought surgeon had poured in a ton of cement. Now 3 weeks in heaviness and swelling gone but still some stiffness. Out enjoying my daily walk, clocking up 3 miles per day and today added in a flight of steps. Still on 2 crutches while out
Mike, is it longer because of the operation or has been lengthened to make same with other leg?
Hi, I'm 11days post op. I had to have my operated leg lengthened, and like you the first few days I felt it was much longer than the other. I asked my Surgeon if this was normal, he said it would feel like this at first, and I would gradually adjust. I can't tell you the exact day I felt normal, but at 11 days now I feel 'level'. That great Sue, i hear people dont feel level even after 3 months. Did you do any special exercises?
Haven't done anything different to what everyone else has been doing. I was quite worried and dissapointed initially when I felt the operated leg was longer, as I had quite a difference in leg lengths, because I had Perthes as a child. Can't remember how many times I mentioned to the Surgeon that I wanted 'leveling up'. I saw the pre-op x-ray, and the difference was quite alarming, I haven't seen my post-op x-ray yet. But everyone says I look level.
my legs were of equal length prior to surgery. Now left is about 1 inch longer. Only other factor was that I had knee replacement on same length 4 months ago. Doc says that may have contrinuted to discrepancy, but says it will all even out. I'd love to have someone on this forum tell me there discrepancy went away.
