Hi all,

27 year old male here. I guess it started around 3 months ago when after eating out one day, I started having palpitations for 2-3 days straight. A few days later, developed a dull ache near my left ear, and lightheaded / dizzy feeling on my left side mainly, and left side of forehead. No headaches. Crackling in the left ear on yawning and squeaking in left ear on performing the valsalva maneuver.

Waited for 10-15 days for it to get better, when it didnt, consulted a GP, who ordered several tests, Brain CT scan, cervical spine xray, ECG, vitamin D, Vitamin B12. Everything came out normal. GP prescribed some vitamin b12 supplement for some days, no improvement.

At the same time, got referred to an ENT specialist, who looked inside the ears and straight away dismissed it as a neurology issue, and that the ears were completely normal, based on an audiometry and tympanometry exam.

On visiting the Neurologist , he too dismissed it as being some issue with my eustachian tube, and prescribed multiple antihistamine courses , and also an azithromycin antibiotic course for 5 days. Unfortunately no improvement thereafter either.

Meanwhile, I developed a cold and sinus issues, following which I got a sinus CT scan, which showed mild mucosal thickening in the maxillary sinuses. Consulted another ENT, who assured me it wasn’t serious and continue with steam and allegra.

Around this time I got tinnitus in the left ear mainly, also sometimes in the right ear, which made me suspect vestibular neuritis or Menieres , which was eventually ruled out by ENT. But interestingly, I do not have tinnitus any more, just the lightheaded dizzy feeling in my head on the left side, temple and forehead, which is quite debilitating , as this constant feeling of dizziness inside my head. Also there is this weird feeling of pressure in my upper left teeth, cheek bone and postnasal drip.

Not sure if this is due to an ear issue, sinus issue or something else. Does anyone here have similar symptoms? Could there be a definite diagnosis on my condition? Thanks in advance!

I know it can be tough. I have been spaced out for about 10 yrs. Do you have pain in your neck? Have you looked up occipital neuralgia? A neurologist would give you a nerve block shot to see if it helps if you think you may have occipital neuralgia. There are no tests for it.

No pain in neck. No headaches. I think that is out of question for me at least.

I have bilaterial vestibular loss which was diagnosed March 2017. It took me 15
years to get this findings. first I had mild parkinsons disease, then C.I.D.P. and
finally Vestibular… no doctor can look into your ear and say it’s fine. there is
a wall that separates the middle ear from the right and left ear. There is a
series of test for the middle ear which will tell if there is a Vestibular problem.
I had the test that’s why I know I have bilaterial Vestibular, which is indicative,
in my case, by my near loss of balance, even with a walker, deaf in left ear and
about 50% loss in right ear and infrequent mild double vision.
In my opinion, damn few doctors are alert too or understand a Vestibular
condition. you might check the Multichannel Trial (Vestibular) going on at
Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. If possible, get an appointment there.
