Long-standing cyst on my neck

I have a cyst on the back of my neck which has been there since my teenage years. That means 20-25 years. As a teen I suffered recurring cysts both in this location and at the base of my spine (coccyx). The one at the base of my spine eventually disappeared and has never reoccurred since. However the one on my neck has been there ever since. For a long time after it first appeared it was sore and painful but eventually the pain went away and although the cyst remained it didn't cause me any issues. It was like this for many years. A few years ago it started swelling slightly, filling with more fluid, it became painful and uncomfortable again and eventually popped. when the skin healed it again swelled and went through the same cycle all over again. This went on for quite a while in a cycle until it once again eventually stopped and for a time it was almost unnoticeable and very small. It did grow again to it's normal size but again didn't cause me any issues. Lately though it has started swelling again and has become painful. It feels like it is going to pop again. I was told as a teen that these cysts are harmless and although they can be removed, it would leave an unnecessary scar which can be avoided by simply living with it. Surely though it should not still be causing me occasional trouble and still be there after more than 20. years! Should I see someone?
