About 3 - 4 years ago I had 3 planned ablutions of my cochlear with Gentamicin. This was in response to suffering bad episodes of MD for several years.
Since the treatment I have had no major attacks and only the occasional minor episode. I do however continue to suffer a number of vestibular problems some of which are slowly improving. The problems include dizziness and poor balance in response quick and ocular movements, bad headaches, tinnitus, ear fullness just to name a few.
Myquestion is to those who have had such a treatment is what is your long term experience? My expectation was that my brain would compensate for the reduction in cochlear function much more quickly than it has and with fewer symptoms.
Thanks for any response.

Sorry sorry it was ablation of the cochlear and not ablution!
If I may, the ablation is of the vestibular peripheral system of that ear, and not of the cochlear.
The slow improvement is expected and is a good sign.

I would love to see the responses to this too. This will be my next step before surgery and I'm hoping this would help me.
My life has been on hold sure to this debilitating desease.
Eleftheruo33095, may I ask if steroid injections in place of gentimicin is an option?
I understood my ent to make mention of this procedure.
Thoughts are to try less invasive before any talk of sugery.
Thanks for any advise.
Yes, steriod injections are an option. In fact, this is usually tried before gentamicin.

Gentamicin is an ototoxic drug.Hence loss of cochlear hair cells. This would have left u with a single sided deafness. One draw back with asymmetrical hearing loss is the feeling of imbalance. This could be corrected by restoring hearing if possible with a hearing aid. Get an audiogram done and see what is going on. Having that hearing restored may give u less feeling of blocked up and more balanced hearing and of course better quality of life ....
