Lange Warteliste für OP

Hi everyone hope your all doing well.

I was just wondering how long you post op ladies have waited for your date of your hysterectomy? I had my pre op assessment almost 4 weeks ago. I rang the hospital to see it they had a date yet and they said I'm not on the list at all yet(up until the end of March!) as there is a long waiting list. Seems odd to me especially as I've had the pre op assessment. Also wondering if these assessment have a shelf life as health issues can change.

Hi Angie,I had my op 10 days after pre op assessment but they still had to do my bloods again on day of op.

Some health services are different I was told to go to the hospital I had my op with as the waiting time for others in my area was 12 months just to see a consultant. I was all done and dusted from start to finish in 4 months.

I really feel it for you as the waiting is the the worst.

Hi Angie.

I was so very lucky from start to finish with mine.

My GP sent me a letter which had a password. I had to go on and choose my hospital. He advised that on that list there would be 2 or 3 private hospitals within the area and if I chose one of those the likelihood would be that a date would come through quicker.

Obviously given the choice, I went for a private one and within 2 weeks of my assessment I was in.

I think I had a really good gynachologist though which helped as I explained I had just started a new job in a school and the 6 weeks holidays were coming up and that I had already had lots of time off due to my severe bleeding. She was brilliant. So my recovery time covered the holidays so I was back to work in September and didn't miss any work.

I think I was just really lucky how it all worked out ( unusual as I'm not usually that lucky!)

I also think it depends on where you live. Were you given the hospital or could you choose?

I was under the impression that after you had your assessment, it wasn't long after but I might be wrong, as in that time of waiting things may change, eg you may become anaemc.

I would keep ringing them and make yourself a pest or call your GP and tell them that they've said your not even in the waiting list yet.

That's shocking!!!

Take care

Thanks jo. Wow you were really lucky!

No I didn't have a choice of hospitals, but our local one is literally a 5 minute walk so I think most people are sent there from where I live.

I have been anaemic in the past due to a 5 month long period but finally they found medication right for me to stop that. However because I was on it a while the hospital wrote to me and wanted me to come off due to risks. I was expecting a horrendous period, but 42 days later......nothing! Not sure if that's good or bad. But am betting it will happen before my op. However, I've had my hormone levels tested and am now perimenaausal , so it's just a waiting game now in more ways than one. Just want it done now!!!

Hi Ann. Thanks for replying again. How are you?

Technically I shouldn't have even seen the the consultant yet to discuss the options. It's only because my doctor hurried the appointment up for me due to the bleeding. So I'm lucky in that respect. If she hadn't had done that for me I haven't a clue how long I'd be waiting. I don't know if you read my reply to Jo, but am off the mess to stop the bleeding and haven't had a period since and I am perimenaausal now so that's probably why. So not really in any desperate need for the op at this moment in time but who knows what may happen tomorrow....next week etc.

As you say the waiting is the worse bit as can't plan for any thing. Hey Ho, I'm sure it will come soon enough.

Angie x

Yes you definately get to the stage of just wanting it over and done with.

Hopefully you'll hear something soon. Which one are you having?

Hi Angie.

I saw my consultant in Jan 2015 and he explained the procedure. He wanted me to have a 3 month course of injections to try and reduce the size of my fibroids. He wanted to see me about 3 days later to see if i had decided if i wanted to go ahead with the op and if i did he would give the first injection. This was Jan 13th and he told me then that my op would be on April 6th.I had my pre op aswell on Jan 13th and i was told you can have that done up to 3 months before.

Hi Teresa

Thanks for replying. That's good to know about the time limit. Just seems a long time though. Hope you are well and everything is ok now.

I will reply in more depth later tonight.Just a bit busy at the moment with the boring housework.

Hi Angie,

Time to sit down, unwind and have a chat.I can't believe that it will be a year in April that I had my op.I had a TAH with BSO and I had 9 weeks off work and then I returned to work starting with 12 hrs working my way back to full time over a 6 week period.I work as a supermarket assistant so I do a lot of standing and lifting but even sitting on a till I had to be careful.I started hrs in June as I wasn't sleeping very well and I was getting hot flushes at night.I have been taking Estradiol tablets which I get on with fine.

I went to my doctor thinking I had a hernia and the ultrasound scan showed up several fibroids which is why I ended up with a hysterectomy. It was a shock when I found out but the operation went well and I couldn't believe how easy my recovery was.

I have now got over all that my I am now having problems with my right knee.I saw a consultant  a month a go and having had an X-ray they found that I have got a small amount of arthritis and I had to have an MRI scan last week as they want to investigate further especially the cartilage. If I end up with a knee op I think this could be worse than the hysterectomy.

Not sure what time of hysterectomy you will be having but please ask for any help that you need.

luv

Teresa

Hi Teresa

Hope you don't need another op for your knee! Think you've been through enough.

I'm having a LAVH. I couldn't decide whether to have my ovaries removed and was stressing myself out so much over it. But having joined this forum and talking to the other ladies on here really helped me to make up my mind. So I will be having them removed.

I've had problems with my periods for a few years now on and off. Had a D and C and marina coil fitted then had that removed as cldnt get on with it and continued to bleed. Took meds which still didn't work but helped. Had a failed ablation as they punctured my uterus, more meds which made it worse with various trips to A and E as the blood loss was so frightening. My longest period lasted 5 months! Another attempted ablation, which also failed, which brings me to this point and now I just want the op so i can get on with my life. BUT have since had to stop the meds due to risks as I was on them for a while and no period for 42 days and have since found out due to blood tests that I'm perimenaausal, so now im thinking do I actually need the op? .......The joys of being a woman!!!

Hi Angie I waited 2 weeks after pre op before I had my op good luck get plenty of rest afterwards

Thanks Caroline. That's how long roughly I thought I'd be waiting...no such luck though. I live on the outskirts of London so that's probably why the waiting is so long.

Take care

Hi Angie.

I have been through nothing like you.To be honest apart from some slightly heavier periods for a few months and stomach bloating which i also get because of IBS i didn't even now i had fibroids and the largest was 20cm.They were going to try embolisation but because of the size they decided that a hysterectomy was the answer.Good luck with everything.

Hi ya.

We all have different problems for different reasons and a lot have people have been through a lot more than i have. Don't under estimate what you have been through, Teresa, emotionally and physically. Major surgery is a big thing for what ever the reason and no matter what age. We just have to get through it and deal with watever we have to afterwards. It's good to talk to people going through similar issues though. So thanks for replying and wish you all the best. X

Yes it is good to talk to people with the same thing I was off work8 weeks still feel the ditches inside but I'm well

Yes it is I live in Hereford and went under the NHS in a private hospital I waited 3 mths I still feel the ditches a bit best wishes x

I didn't hear back the middle week in November  was seeing the nurse at my GPs medicine check, told her I had not heard back from the hospital, hopeing she would phone for me but she give me the Consultants secretary phone number, took me a week to get the courge to phone I phoned 1st December, Was told I was on the list for surgery it was planned for early in the new year, I started asking questions secretary said she would get a senior nurse to phone me, About half an hour later got the phone call asked what I wanted to know presumeing I was having left overy & cyst removed at the end I asked would I be going home the same day she answered "oh no you are booked for Total hysterectomy with bso" it was a shock. First Appointment 06 January 15 cancelled, second Feuary cancelled 16 March cancelled. 23 March 2015 had operation

That's awful glad you had it in the end though I also had th with bias the surgeon was first class but boy the pain after was something I never experience before
