Massive sigh/inhale/gasp

I don’t know how to explain this but throughout the day I will just be sitting there and then every now and then I will have to take a massive gasp for air. It makes the sound of a sigh but it happens a lot and in my head I imagine having a massive thud in my chest once it’s done. I never have a massive thud but I always worry about it happening which makes me more scared of my heart stopping. I recently had my 20/30th ecg and they come back fine along with bloods. I’m really really low at the moment and I don’t know why. What is this symptom and what can it be. Any help would massive help a young English man sleep tonight.

i dont know what causes that but I know exactly what you are talking about and i do it every so often.

Hi it’s quite normal for this to happen so stop worrying about it please. You are probably a mouth breather like many of us so make a conscious effort to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

Your heart (unless you have a serious heart condition) is much too strong to stop suddenly as most peoples last a lifetime. It could also be a symptom of anxiety. I suspect you suffer from health anxiety which again is common. x

health anxiety is something i suffer with thanks for your comment

I am the same, someimes have to make myself yawn to get a deep breath but have had bloods, ecg, chest xray and nothing come back now I am on sertraline and feel better but put weight on so when I gasp/yawn for air I blame the weight gain… anxiety of any sort really isnt fun but ride it out and try to ignore it.
like mentioned above the heart is amazing and unless you have a family history of heart conditions or have a underlining medical reason it probably isnt your heart. my doctor turned round to me and said they would probaboly know before I would if I had a heart condition due to the various tests I have had
