I have just been diagnosed with IBS and although I am relieved to know the root of my problem I am still concerned that Mebeverine may not be the right drug for me. My GP informed me that IBS is related heavily to Personality type, which would make sense because I've noticed that my IBS flares up in moments of stress. If that is the case though and my IBS is more related to my anxiety than my diet, will Mebeverine actually help.
I have changed my diet numerous times and nothing seems to change. As it stands, I have the most boring diet ever for fear of flaring my stomach up and if it wasn't for my love of cooking I think I would give up eating altogether!!
Would anyone be able to shed any light on this for me? I am desperate to just get on with my life and I feel that IBS is massively prohibiting me.
From what I've read about ibs recently, medical opinion now considers stress to be something which agravates the condition rather than a cause. So I think it would help if you took some steps to try and control your anxiety, like relaxation techniques and more exercise like going for walks, even hypnotherapy if that is possible. I've suffered with this problem for twenty years but I'm controlling it quite well by controlling anxiety as much as I can.and taking mebeverine when needed. Mebeverine does help to control the bowel pain but should not be taken all the time as it becomes less effective as time passes. Try it for 2-3 weeks at a time and hopefully the pain will stop. Taking Fybogel can also help. By keeping a diary of what I eat and drink I've found that coffee can trigger it off , also spicy foods but I can eat and drink anything else. Its certainly worth trying this. But , from my experience ive found its very important to try not too worry too much I'm not a medical man but I certain know quite a bit about IBS, from long experience.
Stress is the cause, the only medical solution I have found is mebeverine . I know when my cramps are coming because I get hot and cold flushes, this is when I take the drug. It is the only thing that has worked for me. I suffered on off for 10 years before mebeverine was found to help
hi
i've been diagnosed with ibs over six weeks ago, just after I've had finished all courseworks for university and also buried a member of my family. i had symptoms before but suddenly my tommy was like a baloon and was like this for over a week! crumps, colics, pain, constipation... i've been given fibre drink, which wasn't helping me. i was seeing gp every week... then I've been given mebeverine almost 2 weeks ago but it seems not doing the job like I would expect it. It reduced pain but every day after 2pm my tommy starts to get bigger and bigger! Now waiting for results of an ultrasound. I also feel depressed and tired almost all the time...
But I noticed very significant thing-I have no problems, no \"baloon\", only funny loud sounds from my tommy on Saturdays and Sundays! and I work 8-4 Mon-Fri....
I am quite sure the pressure from work and uni in last few months caused all my problems. It definately changed my life forever...
Im having problems with my diet-what to eat if no matter what i've had for breakfast the bloating starts in the afternoon... is that because of mebeverine?
