Hi I found this site after searching Google for any info on whether long term use of antidepressants, mainly Prozac can cause memory loss. I have been on antidepressants since my twenties and now I am 58. I was diagnosed with a form of bi-polar that comes out as severe and persistent anxiety and depression, rather than highs and lows. My mind used to be quick, thorough and clever but beginning in my 30's it seems progressively slower, spotty, and dull-witted. I need to read things over and over to fully comprehend their meanings and am really slow at recalling specific details.
I also take forever to complete tasks compared to my coworkers and have symptoms of ADD- my mind jumps all over the place and it's very hard to focus on one train of thought for any length of time without getting distracted. In the past I've been able to fake it and no one seems the wiser but it seems to be getting worse and I find myself avoiding conversing with people because I forget details sometimes within minutes.
Does anyone have any info or experience on whether it's the depression/anxiety that causes this or the meds? This memory issue does not run in my family.
