Menopause - Perimenopause and Nausea

Hello Ladies, I found a little slice of information that may help some of you. I'd been dealing with horrible morning sickness like symptoms for months now. I just referred to it as nausea. My daughter, who just had a baby said "mom, that sounds like morning sickness". And she was dead right!

I'll just cut to the chase. After some research I found this page: https://suite.io/deanna-lynn-sletten/2zxy21w

Needless to say, I have been nausea free for two weeks now. (I wanted to make sure it was really working before I posted)

I recently (a few months back)  started drinking coffee in the morning only as a cure for constipation. (I hate coffee) I was also only eating some almonds for breakfast and three meals a day. Well, the writer of this blog has a few tips on what to change in your daily life to help you get through this phase. I stopped the coffee and drink Ginger/Honey tea,I  eat a banana for breakfast and smaller meals throughout the day. Most the writers other advice I already do.

Day one of my change... zero nausea. And everyday since for two weeks now. I'm still slightly dizzy, just slightly. But the most horrible side of it is gone. I hope this helps a lot of you too.

Best of health to you all! biggrin

question is it normal too get you're mentural cycle twice in one month during premenopuse

HI Lisa! Yes. I've had it gone for 6 months and then hit me so hard I thought I had to go to the ER. (silly in hindsight) Then I'd have a period and another in a week. It's a vicious cycle. I'm almost 16 months with no period and I can tell you... it will level out and end. Ahhhhhhhhh

Thanks for this advice. Im suffering severe nausea in my 8th year of perimenopause. I feel awful x

Thanks for the information! That's exactly what this nausea feels like--morning sickness. I've had to make sure I wasn't with a pregnancy test. I'm 49 in August ( first skipped cycle, aside from one a year ago. Not nearly as debilitating that time) and feeling awful. Had to change insurance and just got a gun appt for the end of month weeks away. I feel awful too. This is my first bout with this hormonal intoxication. My early trimesters of pregnancy were fraught with nausea. When does it end??

Thanks, ladies.

I like the Freudian slip "I have a gun appointment for the end of the month."  LOL. Seriously, feeling badly every day, especially early in the day, is awful. Mine gets bad almost two weeks before my period then greatly subsides when/if I get it. Very frustrating.

That link didn't work for me. Any more info on particulars would be really helpful. Also I wanted to pose a question to everyone:  are those of us suffering from terrible peri menopausal nausea the same ladies that suffered with severe morning sickness during pregnancy?  I had horrible morning sickness that required hospitalization with my first pregnancy and awful morning sickness through my other two that didn't reach that level of severity. I'm wondering if there's a correlation because most of my friends had little or no morning sickness and aren't suffering with nausea during peri menopause. Thoughts?

I had bad nausea bouts in both my pregnancies & am suffering in the peri as well. My nausea starts when my period starts or about the 4 th day . It's bad during the day & takers of about 9-10 pm. Returns in morning. I have had this for a year & GP has tried various medicines ,none working at the mo. I did have a vestibular problem which explained the dizziness but that has settled now . The nausea remains .,,...have tried ginger tea, accupressure bands and a few other things but when it's at its peak - nothing can quieten it . I will go to GP & see if can get referral- maybe gyn or endocrinology? Anyone beaten it or resolved with time ? How long?

It's been over a year since this was first posted but hopefully someone will see this and give me some insight. I am 51 and just started the symptoms of peri menopause. This month was the first month without a period. I noticed that several were commenting on their level of nausea. Mine is so severe some days that lasts to the point that I feel I have a stomach virus. I'm light headed and weak and unbelievably cranky to the point of feeling and looking crazy. Anyone experienced this?

Nausea is the worst . Nothing worked for me when it occurred at the start of my period .

Recently started hrt & nausea did not occur. Let's see how it goes.

Was scared of hrt but had run out of options & could not go through this every month.

Apart from nausea , anxiety was quiet bad . Not fine but better .

Hi jan 1264 I have been trying to find a post that relates to hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness) and perimenopause and so glad I found yours.  I suffered from HG when pregnant and hospitalised, vomiting all day everyday until birth of my daughter.  I was unable to take the pill and my Dr warned me that menopause could have simiarl symptoms to HG and I am finding that to be true.  Am nauseated all day at a low level but enough to make me want to just go to bed.  Cant get my Dr to agree - am using herbs and acupunture will some degree of success but it is still unrelenting.  Its a lonely time when other women seemingly just fly through and you appear to be a hypercondiac!!  This forum is so helpful - how are you getting on now? Take care

Hi Glenda. I am getting the nausea too. I am 44 and just had my first late period. It feels like morning sickness. I actually was so sick a couple of weeks ago, I couldn't eat and passed out and had to spend the night in the hospital. I haven't been able to correlate mine with my period or a certain time of the month. Only it seems worse at night.

Hi I'm new to the forum but I'm 52 pretty sure I'm going through menopause. My periods are now like every 3 to 4 months. I get really hot then I get nausea, it's awful . But I keep plugging along. Does any one else get really hot and nausea then I cool down but still have nausea and it makes me feel really bad? And then on top of that I have IBS but that's totally different any suggestions.

Thank you

Theresa

GA to you all!

First allow me to say that I am immensely grateful for finding a forum where others seem to be able to  relate to what I have been experiencing. I am 52 and have been in/out of the ER for the past 2month trying to find out what is causing my NAUSEA (never any pain) just a debilitating nausea that comes whenever and stops me dead in my tracks! I eat relatively healthy, no soda, no smoking, moderate excercise, etc., etc.,  Not one of the Dr's have yet to associate my extreme horrible nausea with 'menopause'.

I've had every test done imagineable including urine, culture, blood, etc.. (thankfully everything returned fine) My FP prescribed Nexum and was told I prob have IBS, and I was given Zolfran (in the ER and by my GYN).  Yes, I am still getting my period so of course I am not considered in the Menopause Stage (I have skipped my period for 2months & it returned the 3rd month for 7 days!   Uggggggh! usually it's 3/4)

I have found that drinking chamomile tea & fresh 'ginger' cut in boiled water is soothing.. but there are times when nothing works and I'm jus' exhausted watching the clock &  praying for the bout of nausea to be over (sometimes it will hit at night after a perfectly calm day and last throughout the night til the wee hours) I have also found that taking 2 tablespoon of ACV in 8 ounces of water helps to stabiliz your Ph Balance and keeps you regular & your digestive system calm.  For now I keep my meals simple/bland : toast,  warm lemon water, boiled egg, yogurt, fresh vegetables (spinach) grilled/baked chicken, crackers with pnut butter, bananas and lots of  herbal teas   ; -)

I DO NOT take HRT  and prefer to use only that which  is natural as I do not want to deal with  any "side effects"..

Some of you mentioned severe morning sickness with pregnancy or heavy periods (I've had 5 pregnancies and very little morning sickness and never heavy or painful periods) so I don't think there is a pattern there?

I also had test done for fibroids ( I have 2 that so small they are not relevant to my symptoms at all & will continue to drink ACV to shrink them)

Please hang in there and I hope I was able to provide some comfort by sharing what I am experiencing as well-

FthB

Ditto ☺

I am still getting nausea and I am postmenapausal!

Anything ginger helps☺

Hmm... interesting thought Jan. Yes I had horrible nausea day and

night for three months with both my pregnancies.

Anyone else?

Yes. Awful. Still getting it as I said previously

Always cranky lol😁

Yes hot flush, nausea. Ugh..

Strange. In fact that is one of the things that is bad for me at the

moment. I eat ginger biccies! Helps a lot.☺

Well FthB, that blows Jan and my theory out of the water😁

(Nausea in pregnancy =Nausea in menapause )!😕😕
