Periods became heavy 18 months ago, clotting and flooding. Only other thing I've noticed is am always feeling extremely cold. Anyone else heard of this?
You need to get your thyroid checked, feeling cold all the time is a classic symptom of hypothyroidism.
Have had test done because my Mom has had thyroid problems for over 30 years. Came back clear. Someone mentioned you can get cold flashes instead of or as well as hit flashes!
Hi, Topmart,
I'm 47 and have been in peri for nearly 5 years. Within the last 18 months or so, I've had the same issue. Very heavy, flooding, long lasting periods (when I do get a period. My cycles are anywhere from 45 days to 90 days now--they used to be like clockwork). I saw my doctor and after some extensive testing she determined these heavy periods were related to severe hormonal fluctuations. I was given bioidentical hormone supplements, but have yet to take them, as I wanted to try to get through this without the hormones for fear I'd feel worse. My doctor said many women experience heavy (sometimes clotty) periods during peri and she recommended bio HRT, adrenal, iron and magnesium supplements. I do take the other supplements she suggested and it does seem to help somewhat. She also suggested taking ibuprofen to help lessen the bleeding and calm any pain.
I'm sorry you are going through this. I know it is very frustrating. The heavy bleeds has been one of the most difficult symptoms for me during peri (and I think I've experienced nearly every symptom on the list!) Visit with your GP or a natural wellness physician and see what they can suggest. You shouldn't have to suffer. They may be able to provide help. Big hugs--Sarah
