Mirtazapine and pregabalin

Hi am new to this but I have been wanting to post for a while, I have been on mirtazapine for some time now, I have had some good results with the mirtazapine now and again, some times better than others, I have found that with my prescriptions that I get once a month it's always a different generic brand, with this I have found that each has a different effect on me, some seems to be working better than others, mirtazapine has helped with my concentration and its also helped me with my job, by that I mean my job doesn't feel hard anymore, but different brands just keep making me feel different from one month to the next, some make me feel like I am normall others make me snappy, and others just make me feel tired, I am also on pregabalin for GAD at 300 mg a day, I have recently started to feel all the anxiety coming back, churning stomach, panic, speaking to customers is getting extremely hard again, I don't want to keep upping meds but I don't want to keep getting to this stage and upping and upping meds just to feel back to normall again, I am on 2 15 mg of mirt, could it be the different brands of mirt not working the same as the previous ones, any advice would be appreciated, thank you and sorry to ramble!

I take 45mg of Mirtazapine, and like you I get various different generic brands from time to time. I can`t honestly say I have ever noticed any difference.

I must say that in my case it was a life saver from the chronic Depression I had suffered for years before being prescribed this, I have been taking it now for well over 10 years, And the depression has never returned in anything like the severity it was, or for any length of time.

As for the Pregabalin, I personally wouldn`t touch it, my Father was prescribed it for Neuropathic Pain, and it was no good for his pain, and it had a profound effect on his mental state, I can only describe it as it made him nasty and argumentative, he now takes Amitryptaline. But if it works for you keep taking it, everyone is different.

Also, Mirtazipine is a strange drug, in that it seems to be more sedating in lower doses, and 15mg is often prescribed instead of sleeping tablets nowadays.

Well thanks for the reply, had to stop taking the pregabalin as I went up to 450 mg but I found it was making me worse, kept getting tingling lips and my gums and teeth just did not feel quite right, sore gums etc the mirtazapine worked really well for the first year but I noticed all the time I was on them I felt really emotionally numb which I didnot like, I also started to feel really heavy and lethargic, recently been put on citalopram which for the first 4 weeks never felt much apart from some side effects, but now I can honestly say all the negative thoughts have gone, am happier than I have been in a long time, in general just getting on with things as if nothing has ever been wrong with me, thanks for your reply!

The " heavy and Lethargic" feelings may not be in your mind at all, one of the major side effects of Mirtazapine is that it gives you an incredibly sweet tooth, if you don`t keep your eye on what you eat, you will pile on the pounds, even stones. But I think I`d rather be chubby and happy than thin and depressed, although being fat can make some people depressed, so a bit of a circle there.

I hope you find what works for you, keep going back to your GP there are a plethora of drugs that can be used for depression/anxiety nowadays, some claim to be non - addictive, though I personally think that anything that actually works, is addictive to some level.

All the best
