Mirtazapine withdrawl

just wanted to share my experience so far of withdrawl from mirtazapine. I have only been off completely for 7 days so I totally realise I am not out of the woods yet and there very well may be more to come. I will try to keep updating. Am writing this I need the hope it mîght help someone as I myself have traveled through forums looking for other people's experiences.

my withdrawl has been as follows: was on 30mg for 8 months

withdrew to:

15mg for one month -all fine.

7.5mg for 4 days - felt very sedated on this dose

3.75 for 10 days - felt much better

1.87 for 4 days

then jumped off completely 7 days ago

i have insomnia but it isn't not too bad, can't sleep sometimes till 2am but then do sleep eventually for 4 or 5 hours or so. I have a prescription for zopiclone if needed but trying to resist. So far I have only taken half a zopiclone for just two nights (not consecutive) and slept very well.

Today i I have been a bit teary and tired. Will keep you posted. Please comment if this has helped you in any way

Incredibly useful, thank you! Good luck on your journey, I hope it goes well for you.

I've tapered down from 30 to 7.5. Hoping to come off completely. Really appreciate your updates on this

Kirsty x

I will definately keep updating this at least every few days. Feel absolutely fine at the moment after being a bit down this morning, it has lifted. Good luck on your journey too.i found that 7.5 didn't suit me and as soon as i dropped to 3.75 I felt better

I'm finding the mornings are where I'm

Struggling more too. Higher anxiety level and feeling really grumpy, to the extent of being annoyed about anything! Look forward to hearing how you get on. How long did you stay on 7.5? I've been on that 5 days now.

Kirsty

Sorry! Just saw, 4 days. Did the jump down to 3.75 make you feel much worse?

No, I felt much better once I got down to 3.75. Will keep you posted how I get on in next few days.

Good luck Katie. It feels good to hear positive results on withdrawal. I just started last week after 7 years

Thank you, really appreciate it. Good luck!

My thoughts exactly. I've read some horror stories on here that scared the heck out of me!

Hi Katie, thanks for ur post, i am really keen to wean myself off mirt, I was on 15mg for several months and am now down to 7.5 for the past 4 months and was going to try half of that dose soon.......so hoping I can manage to quit without too many setbacks.

Well another day down and still ok. It's 8 days off now. I know I've gone off quite fast and so keep expecting a bad reaction at some point, but so far so good. I will keep posting every couple of days or so. Last night was a bad night for sleep, couldn't sleep again till maybe 2am and then woke at 4 and again at 5.30. But at least I did get some sleep. Am trying to manage without zopiclone.

other than insomnia been fine, a few tiny wobbles and a bit teary yesterday but so much better last night and this morning. Have been able to see a clarity when looking outside and my senses feel sharper. It's only very subtle and comes and goes, but have felt clearer headed

Thank you! I'm still finding myself grumpy and anxious morning times, how is that for you?

Also, has your appetite decreased yet? Mine has gone up ten fold t night since tapering to 7.5.

Thanks for the updates 😊

I have been really worried about getting anxiety but so far it hasn't emerged really at all. Time will tell. My appetite is still good, too good unfortunately. I have got a lot of weight to lose and was actually looking forward to going off my food a bit in order to kick start a diet but it hasn't happened yet!

It it takes me a while to get going in the mornings, sometimes after I have dropped my kids off at school at 9am I like to just sit with a coffee and it takes a while to get going, I can feel quite blank and lethargic but I think that is lessening now.

I'm looking forward to not eating through the night, it's bizarre how it's done that the me!

I'm the same in the morning, one of my girls is at school but I have a 3 year old at home, and sometimes I feel a bit of a zombie, hoping that lessens soon!

Kirsty

Well another two days have gone by, now 10 days off today. Still feel ok, quite well in patches. Still not sleeping very well, got about 4 hours last night. But really that is my only symptom.

I still have such a fear that more withdrawl symptoms are yet to come as I know that I have gone off quite fast,  but with every day that passes I am developing more hope that it will be ok. I think if I can get to the 2 week mark without major withdrawl symptoms rearing their head then I will relax a bit but I know I'm still not out of the woods even then.

i have a theory that maybe all the people who do get off mirtazapine without problems probably don't bother to post on forums like this, and it's mainly the people who have issues that post the most. I have spent so much time reading forums that I became convinced I would have major problems and became scared to quit and feared the whole process. So far it's not been anywhere near as bad as I thought. I know I may be just one of the lucky ones and really feel for people who are having more difficulties.

Hoping this helps someone, will keep posting every couple of days.

Helping me hugely, thank you! I'm going down to 3.75 as from tonight and I'm nervous, but this gives me hope!

Also, your theory could make absolute sense!!

Keep going, and good luck. Stay in touch

Kirsty

Good luck to you too. 11 days off for me now and feeling well today. Energy and clarity today, got about 5 hours sleep last night so a bit better than night before.

Great to hear! Please keep updating on here, it's really helping me!

Keep going 😀

Update: now 13 days completely off Mirt. Still feel quite well! Sleep seems to be improving slightly. Haven't had to take a zopiclone for last 4 nights and have slept upto 5 hours each night. If I can just get another couple of days over with, say onto day 15 I will dare to start believing I am pretty much throughout it without any major withdrawl. Still darent believe it just yet!

Keep it up!! Sending positive vibes your way! Day 15 is nearly here!
