I am going to have MRI as my specialist suggests. Just wondering if anyone has MRI for diagnosis the extent of Crohn's diseases.
I had an MRI last year to see how extensive the Crohns is. Had to drink a solution beforehand which helps show your bowel on MRI. Also had a dye injection whilst in the machine to do the same. Results showed I had strictures and fistula which had not been diagnosed before. Wasn't too bad an experience and at least they can get to see the bits of your bowel they can't reach by endoscopy. Good luck and I hope it goes well.
Yes I have had a few. That together with a colonoscopy tells them the extent of the disease.
Thanks for replying my quest. I am worrying about kidney after drinking the dye or solution which is metalic. I am old and I am worrying about that. My kidney is good at the moment so I am just want to keep it healthy.
How did you feel? and how is your kidney fuction? Worrying about matalic solution.
I also had the same as Tracey. I had to drink the liquid before which wasn't too pleasant but not too bad either. From the dyes etc I felt a bit funny and dazed after but not bad, And it showed results. That and the endoscopy showed and confirmed Crohn's and ulcers on my intestines.
It was the best thing to do though and results we within half an hour!!
Good luck
Hi yes my Crohns was diagnosed in part by MRI. Due to stenosis they could go beyond the terminal ileum with colonoscopy & endoscopy was normal. They diagnosed 3 strictures with MRI. They do one scan then halfway through inject with buscopan to relax bowel then repeat scan. If I remember rightly they can also measure thickening of the wall etc. It's not too bad a procedure and the stuff to drink I nothing like prior to colonoscopy, buscopan just gave me really bad wind for the night! Good luck
I just had it done this morning and I had diarhear. Did you have diarhear after the test.
I had the test done today but it is bad for me for I had diarhear after the test. Have you experience the same thing? What did you do for your diarhear to stop?
Hi Helly, what is a stricture, what does it do & symptoms it can cause?
Hi Thi, I had MRI years ago before I got my rectum stump removed.
Can't say that it caused diarrhoea 'cos I live with it constantly! If you don't normally have an issue probably just the contrast solution upset you - should settle soon.
Hi
yes an mri scan is normal. Don't worry about it. I had no problem with mine. All though some people might report a little problem there are lots more who don't have problem. Think possative. Let's us know how you went on. Bye the way I am 72 Good luck
I had one yesterday and I dislike it. I had diarrearh afterwards, that i why I post the question. I still have gastroenteritis for some reason. I asked people who done the MRI they said it was the drink I drink but it seemed to me only me having gastro-enteritis.
Thanks for post and share. Is it in your small intestinal? what is the reason you have MRI i meant the symptoms?
musucs was coming out of rectual area, and it me feel unwel, nauseous. Nothing came up on MRI. Scan. So, I had to go back see Consulant and he arranged for me to get scope up there to see what it was., and find nothing but surgeon asked me if I wanted to have retum stump removed incase it does cause more symtoms. I had a think about it. Got it removed in august 2011.
