My anxiety has been dreadful lately.

Hello,

I feel like lately I am losing my mind. I am having days where I have panic symptoms literally 24/7 and I just can't calm down or relax. Its like everything I do is in panic mode and I just don't stop till I am literally exhausted. One job after another, I find anything to keep me moving.

The concerning thing is, I am exhausted, detached, focus gone and my mind is blank completely. I feel sluggish, uncoordinated and generally slower than normal. I get shortness of breath, balance issues and headaches daily yet it's not reflected in my work. To my partner I appear perfect, yet I am shaking like a leaf with internal tremors.

For the past few months I have had the worse fatigue I have ever experienced as in 10 hours sleep and I was still fatigued. I could barely get through a day in work.

When I sleep, my mind is blank but I become focused on my body, the shakes, pains and weird sensations. I don't dream anymore. More just think all night of the next task.

My mood has plummeted as well lately. I have found I have been getting randomly tearful and holding back a breakdown as I am so fed up of feeling this way.

The most annoying thing is, I don't know the driver of it all. I have so much to be grateful for and a lovely supportive wife but the symptoms are still so strong.

I have recently been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis as well which doesn't help but does explain the fatigue and balance issues and some of the general run down feeling. My vitamin D3, C and iron levels were really low so on high dose supplements now.

Can anyone else relate and does anyone have any suggestions. I have been against medication because I am stubborn and keep saying it will pass, but I am thinking I need to try something new now for the anxiety..

Hi Thomas,

I suffered chronic anxiety and was prescribed many different medications.

My thoughts became blurry and I suffered mind fog and depersonalization.

December 2018 I thought I cant go on like this so decided to stop the meds.

I have had no meds at all this year but still suffer bad anxiety.

The way I try to manage it medication free is as follows...

We need to become the watcher of our thoughts, e.g. a worrysome thought appears,we acknowledge that happened and let the thought pass.

Do not hold on to the thought.

I am totally with you on filling my time with jobs to distract my mind (distraction).

Start a new hobby, something that needs you to think and focus on what you are doing.

Do things that you enjoy.

Talk to your partner and explain how you feel, 1 in 4 people suffer with Mental Health and it is really good to talk, who knows your partner may have felt the same at some point and may be able to empathise.

Try Meditation to refocus your mind.

Eat healthy and exercise lots to release those feel good endorphins.

Peace

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, I’m not much help on the subject but I want to let you know if it helps in anyway you’re not alone. I’ve been dealing with the same symptoms it feels like. My derealization has been awful and everything is such a task and I’m just constantly anxious I don’t know what to do anymore it’s affecting my life really hard. I hope you find some help and guidance through this I’ve been really trying to be proactive about my situation to figure something out. Keep pushing on. Best of luck.

Hi Thomas

I have experienced a lot of what you have described above and in the end I had some sort of breakdown as I was exhausted from the anxiety and the depression it brought with it.

I tried to manage my anxiety holistically as I was against medication, but in the end I decided to try it as nothing else was working. 6 months on and I’m almost back to my normal self.

Please seek help from your doctor and speak to your wife, do not suffer in silence as there is help available.

Best wishes.

If you say your symptoms are unbearable, then you may want to start on medication until you learn how to deal with the sensations.

I feel the exact same way. I have debilitating physical symptoms everyday. I'm mentally exhausted and lost and yet I'm so afraid to try meds. Recently I let my husband in on my mental health and it's such a relief to have support. I worry sometimes that it'll push him away.. all my crazy thoughts but he has been so amazing and loving and reassuring. Talk with your wife, it helps so much.

Omg! I feel the same way with my husband. Nervous I’ll push him

Away with my problems.

Thank you all for the messages and advice.

Spoken to my wife and family yesterday and luckily got a GP appointment too.

Decided to try medication properly as what I am doing to manage clearing isn't working after so long.

I just need a break from this constant tension and stressed out state. It doesn't switch off and mornings are ten fold worse! And yeah I know what you mean with the physical pain. I am surprised I haven't broken my jaw yet through clenching and cracking!!

The doctor has prescribed Sertraline. Said it will take a few weeks to kick in properly and it might make me worse before I get better which is worrying but he urged to stick with it.

Will start this weekend and see how it goes I think. Fingers crossed.

Hi Thomas,

I feel for you and what you're going through.  Although I suffer from anxiety and have had panic attacks same like you  now I overcome everything

Do you know why you had this anxiety attack in the shower? It is so scary when having panic attacks as they seems so real.

I know have a coping plan set out by myself and my psych.  I remind myself that I will be okay, I take some slow deep breaths and calm down (sometimes easier said than done).

Not sure but are you going to use some Anxiety supplements as to help you with your anxiety attacks. I really think you need counseling to help you,

Please take care
