My leg just aches

i received THR October 2017. I have thigh and hip pain ever since. I can't walk very far and forget it on uneven surfaces. My surgeon also made my leg longer than the other one, and it throws me off !  This has been a complete nightmare! I use a heating pad often, and take breaks too, but after I've used it for a period of time and go to get back up, I limp worse than I did before I had it. There are times when I sit in my recliner and it just aches. My doctor claims everything " looks great" and he doesn't want to see me till my surgery anniversary, but I'm ready to get a second opinion. I'm 55 yrs old suffering from RA, Lupus and Sjogrens and now a gimpy leg.!

Hi Audrey, sorry to hear your problems, l had a hip replacement 6 weeks ago and my leg aches a lot, but 7 months aching .just be awful, When I went to see my consultant he said he wanted me to have a hip replacement, and he mentioned that one leg can be longer than the other, and if it is he can sort it out, l went for my six week re view this week and he was pleased with me but said your legs are the same length , be mentioned it happens a lot but can be sorted out , so perhaps if you try and see your consultant again dosnt seem right he is nust leaving you worth a try Audrey

He told me I shouldn't notice it!!! Believe me I notice it, my friends notice it, my family notices it!  I still walk with a limp because of it!  I have even bought a lift for my other shoe to try and even me out!  He told me, my other hip will need to be done eventually, so he'll even me out then!  My leg is still not right, it also gives out on me.... I'm just so frustrated! Thank you for your reply, I know I'm not alone in this.

It's not fair He's waiting till you have your other hip done, its not good for you limping when he could have sorted it, its bad enough worrying about the op isnt it? without having to worry about one leg been longer, hope you get it sorted asap , l feel so cross for you , just dosnt seem right

You are not alone! I too have a leg discrepancy 1.5 longer, causes back ache and I can't walk without a crutch. It's extremely noticeable when I sit and look down its someone else's foot sticking out I'm sure. My surgeon said to do physio suggesting my pelvis was uneven 🤔 I'm 12 weeks post op and my first Physio session is on the 14th. He said he will correct it in a year by cutting more bone off if it doesn't get better. So great another op... My glute is so damaged it can't hold my weight which I'm sure doesn't help. I'm worse off now than I was before. Good luck x

It is a sad state of affairs when you put your trust in a surgeon- the reason you're going is because you've had issues and pain with it, so they promise to fix it, but when it's all said and done you are in the same amount of pain as you were before, and they wash their hands of you! That is just not right!!!  He said I'll feel better in a year..... but what about my leg discrepancy? That just doesn't miraculously go away!!! I'm thinking I might get another opinion, after I've given it the year- in a different city then the one I had this one done in... I think they all stick together if you have a problem.  My glute and muscles are so weak also!  I ached so much today, that I kept my weight off of it as much as I could . My life revolves around what I can and can't do, and believe me, it's not much!!!thank you so much for your comments, I do appreciate it!!

you are exactly right Linda- his words were, " I'll even them up when you get the next one done" are you kidding me? Who says I'm going back there ?  The last time I was there, he made me feel like I shouldn't be able to notice it!!! My therapist noticed it by just looking at it sitting in a chair! It's that different! But, hey, he got paid so he's not going to say he did anything wrong!!

Hello Audrey

Have your leg measured by a GP or Podiatrist then  you will know the height difference. From there either get shoes that are built up or take a shoe to the bootmaker and ask them to raise the heel to the height needed if not too big a difference in height. Your surgeon sounds like he does not have much empathy.  The height difference can make a big difference to your thigh and hip pain.

All the best.

Thanks for the info maree.... he doesn't have much empathy at all!
