Feeling quite upset sad a week after the procedure I started getting nausea thought it might of been a flu bug that was affecting me - so as I wasn't getting better decided to go in the flagyl as the doctor prescribed when I saw her for the procedure. I thought well as I wasn't feeling good anyway may as well get on them knowing I'd probably feel

Crap with them. Finished them yesterday and today felt so ill on waking - have felt all week like I've got another bug loosish stools inflamed feeling in the stomach and my bowel feels open or inflamed.

I'm hoping I feel this way because I also have started getting sinus and ear congestion which I read last night can make you feel nauseaous.

Throughout my 7 months I hardly ever had nausea with the ibs so this is really upsetting me - I was told after the flagyl if it didn't work I'd have to just stay on the fodmap diet and normafibre.

I just feel so down - thought having the procedure and nothing sinister to report I'd start dealing with it but now this has upset me so much

Have I opened up another can of worms having the procedure?

Did anyone get sick like this after their procedure and will it settle down?

Thanks

Hi rhonda:  Sorry to know that you are feeling ill.  I had a "double dip" procedure = colonoscopy and endoscopy and had no ill effects after.  I'm not sure why your physician gave you a script for flagyl (I would suspect that may be the cause of your  nausea and loose stool).  I cannot take flagyl because of the side effects.  If you are not feeling better in a few days, call your physician but try to avoid taking an antibiotic because they can sometimes really play havoc with the good bacteria in your gut.  I suspect that once the side effects of the flagyl are over, you'll feel much better.  I suggest you do a net search on flagyl side effects and that may put your mind at ease.

I had the same colon and endoscopy

She thinks I have post infectious SIBO (after semonella poisioning 7 months ago)

So that's why she put me on 10 days flagyl. I finished the last one yesterday.

But today I felt much worse maybe my body couldn't take anymore?

I hope after it gets out of my system that I'll feel better. I felt so ill same as when I had the semonella and I'm sure I have proctitis which I had about 30 years ago - feeling like my rectum is inflamed and open.

Honestly I just broke down today - it's been 7 months of worry - and even though they found nothing in the procedures - you just get vulnerable again when this happens.

I feel like I've been hit with bad karma or something - and I honestly always do the right thing with everyone - but crap keeps happening to me - sorry for the self pity it's just a good place to vent. Thanks for your reply

Your body is probably in a bit of shock from the procedures and will just need time to calm down. Stick to a plain light diet low in fibre. Maybe try probiotics.

Thanks everyone for your input and advice

Pippa you poor thing you've been through the mill / this crappy journey isn't fun.

I hope whatever I've got isn't semonella again felt like it - or is it what people call a "bad flare up"

I hope it's the residual flagyl cos I don't deal well with nausea - one of the things I never had much off until recently.

Hi:  Just a quick note re: eggs.  Doc told me to rinse them and then wash my hands, then proceed to crack the shell, etc.  He said the nasty stuff is usually on the shells.  I rinse just about everything, including any canned food (I can eat peas and canned chicken with rice -- I rinse them all).  Lots of rinsing and washing of hands helps ward off a lot of nasty bacteria that may end up in our guts.  Be well.

Hi rhonda, just wondering how did you get on after your procedure, did you symptoms go away on their own or was a cause discovered. I had my colonoscopy in March, then a month later started feeling aweful.

Hi yulz

How are you now I have the same problem

My 23 year old son has IBS and also had complications after a colonoscopy ( done in Early Dec. 2018). The GI doctor had a colonoscopy done to rule out any Cancer, Diverticulitus, etc. His scopng showed some inflammation at the connection to the large and small intestine and a biopsy was taken. The results were no IBD indications and the GI doctor felt he just had bad inflammation/symptoms from IBS. Approx. 1 week after the colonoscopy he started to have even greater symptoms of severe bloating and pain ( every day). He also started to have nausea and occasional fevers ( which he never had before). The GI doctor showed no care and only suggested that it was just his IBS flaring up. My son is on a very ‘bland’ diet ( no sugars, carbs, a lot of water, etc.) and so we know that his symptoms are not due to foods. We are struggling with solutions ( esp. since our GI doctor will not help us). We are concerned of things such as : infection due to the scoping , diverticulitis ( perhaps developed after the scoping), etc. Please let us know if you have found any answers as to why you are ill after the colonoscopy. Thanks.

I recognize and appreciate your comments . However, it should be noted that the severe symptoms happened after 1 week ( not the day after the colonoscopy ). As a matter of fact, the first 7 days after the colonoscopy there were minimal problems. In terms of time, the colonoscopy was done on Nov. 23rd & it has now been 4 1/2 weeks of extreme bloating/pain, nausea , occ. fever and even skin rashes on his legs ( the last 3 he has never had before in the 7 years that he has had IBS). I do a lot of research and have talked to some other general medical practioners who all admit that there might be complications with the Colonoscopy ( including a partial obstruction). If it truly is just severe IBS then when is it supposed to subside. I wish I could talk to someone that went through the exact same situation and then after 2 months it subsided. It would make all of us confident that you are right. In terms of our GI specialist, suffice it to say that he has shown no care or concern ( that is a fact) and that is why I am trying to help my son.

I had an endoscopy done 6 days ago and I have been nauseous on and off ever since. This was the 4th one I’ve had done and the only time I vomited afterwards. I don’t think I’d go through this again unless they can guarantee I won’t vomit and feel nauseated still a week later

There has only been one colonoscopy but the symptoms are similar to you. For approx. 6 days, was relatively well ( occ. bouts of bloating) but then, after 6 days , the symptoms got way worse. Extreme bloating/pain ( felt like a balloon, worst bloating ever) and no energy, nausea, feelings of anxiety, lost weight , etc. It has been over 6 weeks and now working with a naturopath. On a very bland diet but it seems to help a bit. The problem that I have is…what happened with the colonoscopy ? One thought is that the fluids that you take for the colonoscopy wipe out your guts and then there is an opportunity for bad bacteria and yeast to ‘further’ invade your intestines. The other reason would be that the Doctor did not do an effective job with the scoping ( i.e it is a aggravation due to the scoping itself). Did your GI specialist have any kind of explanation.
