Hi all..started on 10mg and then 20 for last 2 weeks. Still having bad days, infact some worse than I was before.. Was so fed up Saturday I drank 2 bottles of wine and did nt take my tablet!!, needless to say I ve had a bad two days,or would I have anyway!!??.. Can it really take this long to work?.. Maybe it just doesn't work for some?... The only side effect I can't deal with is the anxiety which is why I'm on it!!...any views greatly received! Xx
Unfortunately Helen, it does sometimes happen that you feel worse before you feel better, even a lot worse. To understand why it's important to undertstand how SSRI's work. They adjust the seratonin levels in the brain, basically the stuff that moods are made of. Whilst it's bedding in and finding the right level, it's often hell on earth. As you've altered dosage, there'll be another initial period of adjustment, so it all feels even more awful. I really appreciate that right now you just feel like hell but honestly it really WILL improve. From around 6 - 8 weeks up to about 12 weeks it'll start to even out and after about 3 months, you really will start to feel a lot less stressed, calmer and more on an even keel. Cit isn't a 'happy pill' but what it will do is make the world around you feel more normal so that the little ups and downs won't matter and you'll have enough strength to deal with the bigger issues. I'm sure right now it feels like it just will never end but if you read the posts on here you'll see that people do find the light at the end of the tunnel and look back on the bad stuff as a rapidly decreasing memory. Please stick with it, in a couple of months, you'll even be able to giggle about this. Big hug in the meantime. xx
Thanks loxie. On that basis I should be starting to feel better soon!!..hope so, it's just hard work!, especially at this time of year!. Work, present shopping etc!. Came home sick from work today, something I don't do, just couldn't face the afternoon, just too anxious!
Anyways, thanks again for reply, I ll come back soon and let you know! X
Hi Helen, I started 10mg Cit on 22nd Oct this year. 1st week serenity, 2nd to 4th week headaches and tinitus and other unpleasant things. 5th week much much better but the symptoms it was meant to correct, although much receded were still there. Week 6 went up to 20mg and was knocked out by it with fatigue, weakness, misery - you name it. I persevered and now, just in the last week or two I've felt really happy, full of affection and fun. I'm still noticing how generally good and motivated I feel. So, to sum up, for me it has taken 11 to 12 weeks to balance out. Like you I was on the point of giving up and just hitting the booze but I'm so glad now that I stuck with it. Hope you can manage to get through the bad stuff. I'm certain you will be glad you did.
Give yourself a hug from me.
Hi helen. I started my 10mg of cit 3 weeks ago now. For the first week i felt really good. Have had 2 or 3 bad days in the last 2 weeks, but nothing compared to before. I hope you feel better soon. How long you giving them before maybe changing.
