Ich brauche einen Rant

Hi I got put on list for thr early november after repeated conversations with his secretary got told april 9th then may 8th after christmas black alert then given arpil 2nd if i willing to have his registrar which i agreed to.  I then getsa a phone call last thursday offering me saturday morning only to hear 30  mins later sorry we cant fit your pre op in in time. Fast forward to today pre op done this morning so had another chat with secretary she was livid about last week but apologetic and now saying we still looking at early april i have pointed out the 18 week rule and been told everyone on list over that limit. Do these hospital trust even care they are breaching the patient charter and any suggestions what to do next if there is anything. Sorry such a long post just in a lot of pain after this morning and cross.

Yes Tracy, many of us have been through this,it's very frustrating.

I don't think the 18wk rule is legally binding,it's just advisory.

You may be lucky and get another cancellation, we live in hope.

Hi Tracey, Wow u have really been messed about, it really does depend on where u live I'm in Dorset and got my right THR in July 2014 some 12 weeks after seeing the consultant. Was offered the choice of going to a private hospital (BMI) under NHS which worked out very well. Anyway u can push for going that way where u live?.

Best wishes arthur

There is a private hospital 2 miles away which i am told used to do nhs patients i know my surgeon has patients there but i don't know who i need to talk to to try and get this option.

When I had the document from my doctor to book the consultation as a refferal the option were list at the bottom of the page section amrked as 'Your choices'  and I was able to choose at that point

Hi Tracey I went thro last year being told next month etc . Couldn't organise anything and as a carer for my dad it was very difficult . Was on list for 15 months ! Finally had op 3 weeks ago . Live in wales . Good luck

Hi Tracey,

I sure can empathise with you on this one, I was given all kinds of wrong information at my first out patient app. one says one thing and the other says different, I came out in such a state, I emailed the hospitals chief exec. listed all my complaints and said I was not going to go back. in 3 days I had a pre opp. app. for another hospital ( specialising in hip replacements private but run by the nhs, so my advice complain to your hospitals chief exec. the address will be on your letters from them,

good luck.

Lynne.

wow Mary must have been a nightmare hearing on here that wales has a particularly long waiting list. Good luck with your recovery. I just felt that as they were doing pre op it was a step in right direction and was not expecting that despite them doing 2 extra saturdays list had no movement.

I did not get a choose and book just my gp asked if I had any preference on consultant then he sent referral off.

It seems that there are major disparities across the NHS based on where you live. I thought that the ‘choose & book’ NHS system was nationwide and if I’m right you should have been given the opportunity to choose where & who. My GP printed off 3 page document which gave a booking reference & telephone number and on the bottom of the first page the hospitals local to me where this operation could be carried out. I was offered local NHS community hospital or the BMI private. I chose the private, well why not. Your GP should have given you this document for the choose & book. You could try going to the NHS website to find a contact number and see if you can get moved onto another hospital / consulant list.

Wish you the best of luck

Arthur
