I recently turned 18 and was diagnosed with IBS in September 2014, usually it's been easy to deal with, occasional mild pain which could be treated with my prescription of buscopan as well as knowing I've ate something that doesn't agree with diarrhoea the next day.
For about a week now I have been experiencing chronic abdomen pain to the point where I feel nauseous and my bowel movements have increased by a lot, this is because of the pain, it feels like there is pressure on my intestines and that I'm not getting all the stool out however hard I try. The pain doesn't go completely with buscopan and I have no idea on what this could be.
Is this normal? Should I change my medication? Please help.
it sounds like you are a bit constipated. One of the dangers of buscopan that I did not know till recently is that it works by reducing the spasms in the colon, but that us the very process that sends the faeces through the colon and eventually out, so too much makes you constipated. so it may be that you have become constipated - possible even if you normally have diarrhoea - and the buscopan is making the constipation worse - this could explain the nausea. So try and stop the buscopan, eat lots of fruit , drink gallons of water, maybe try linseed. If everything gets back to normal ask GP for something like colofac or peppermint oil, they dont have the same effects as buscopan

Thank you for letting me know I'll start this in the morning, the one thing I failed to mention is that I successfully have a BM however little that may be, is that still in the right frame for constipation? That one note was the only reason I did not think of this sooner
It sounds like a typical IBS flare up. Buscopan reduces pain but doesn't get rid of it entirely. A lot of anti spasmodics are like this. However, Buscopan doesn't give me constipation and is mild enough for my stomach. Peppermint oil gives me heartburn and Colofac is Mebeverine based which is also an irritant for me. But everyone is different. I have had flare ups that have lasted a few days to a week after months of only mild pain. Sometimes medications work for a while and then stop. When this happens change your medecine.
Do you suffer with constipation?
If not then i would reccommend mebeverine. The anti spasmostic medication is only avalible on perscription and is known for helping IBS D and severe pain.
I feel just the same thing, I've been taking parcetmol and I'm wondering if they have made me constipated.
Sometimes when you take certain painkillers for a long period, they can make you constipated. I don't know about paracetamol but Nurofen can bung ypu up. When my IBS began last year, I was in a lot of pain and I already had constipation. I was on constant Nurofen for six weeks and while I was on them, I was even more bungled up.
