hi everyone, i was diagnosed with fm 3 yrs ago, and it has gradually got worse, even the pain clinic has discharged me 6 months ago as she said she couldnt do any more for me. the pain is unbearable and i'm taking 8 diahydrocodeine and 10 tramadol, using a heat pad, and taking clonazepam and amitriptyline to help me sleep so i dont wake up stiff and sore. none of it seems to work, does anyone know of any other pain medication i could try, and cn i get morphine on prescription, thanks
Hi I am Tess
I was diagnosed with Fibro in June this year but had been going on for many years. I am quite lucky with my pain and take 10mg ampytripline and co-proxomol when I need them.
You sound like you are in far more pain! I hope you can find some other form of pain relief or something else that can help you
As far as I know you can't get morphine on prescription! It is a really strong drug and would only be prescribed for you in hospital or by a trained paramedic. I think it is because it is a really addictive drug and would be hard to come off in the long term.
If you have any worries come on and talk to us all! We all know what it is like to have fibro even if we all have different amounts of pain.
Take care
Love Tess x x
hi di here
on the of morphine i have asked my gp but he said try to do without it just now i am tramodol and diclofenic and paracetomol every 4 hours im also on amytripline , anit sickness drugs anti depressant to, but my best friend has had two ops on her back last one in feb and she has been on morphine everyday since with her getting it from her gp..
anyway i woke up this morning and suffered terrible fatigue and pain that i had to go back to bed a hour later, im struggling with this with no one helping apart from coming on here.. so thank u to all my good friends.. im sitting her at moment with my tens machine on but wish i had to cause the pain is all over. i sometimes wish u could die from this illness as i know there would be at one time a end and piece from this everyday pain. i hope u all can understand from what i mean by that..
wishing u all well and hope ur not in much pain today xx
Hi There Im Lindy.
Most \"strong \" meds can only be supplied via prescription. However, I used diclofenac and tramadol.....doesn`t touch me at all.
Do u know what I find helps?...Over the counter paramol. Its paracetamol and dihydrocodeine. Perhaps the combination in these tabs will help. Sometimes its not the strength of the tablet....but finding the 1 that works for you. Can`t do any harm to try huh.
Best of luck.
Lindy...x
hi everyone, thanx for all your advice. i've tried diclofenac and had some really serious side effects so stopped them. also tried paracetomol, no luck either, right now i'm trying a heat pad, which is making me cook, so i think i'm going to bed cos i've had enough of this pain. i couldn't even pick my grand daughters up today (they are 21 mths and 8 mths), that nearly broke my heart cos they were both coming to me for cuddles thanx for listening (or shld i say reading) x x
Hi its Tess
I use to take diclofenac as well but didn't agreed with me! I have had to stop taking all anti-inflammatories as gave as acid reflux. I used try and take paracetomol that doesn't really do anything for the pain. Or I have some co-proxomol from gp that does help a little.
I do feel for you not being able to pick up your granddaughters! I have two granddaughters as well Molly 4 and Sophie 5 weeks old. I am lucky I can pick mine up. But do notice after holding Sophie for a while my arms were hurting. She only weighs 9lb 6oz on her last weigh in so not too heavy really. I can understand where it would upset you as it is the most natural thing you want to do is give them a cuddle
Try to remain positive and take one day at a time! It does help and anytime you want to come on and chat or have a moan we will all be here for you.
Take care
Tess x x
hi tess, i used to take co-proxomol but it been taken of the market here, but thst didnt touch anyway. i wil have a moan this mornring because when i tried to get out of bed, it took me 3 attempts to even sit up, when i did finally get to stand up and walk the pain was all in my hip and thigh, i couldn't walk without hanging on tight to the wall and door handles, it took me 5 mins to get into the bathroom, and it's right next to our bedroom. i have never had pain there before and my back is still agony. its never been as bad as this before, or lasted this long before, i really have had enough thanx for listening luv sue x
Hi Sue,
I hope ur feeling less sore today. Sounds as though you`re having a rough time of it.
Isn`t it awful when u are in pain and nothing helps. Its bloody unfair!!
Take Care

Hi Sue, Lindy & Everyone
Sound like you are having a really rough time Sue! Luickily I don't seem to get my pains that bad  I hope you are not in so much pain again today. My doctor still prescribes them for me and gives me them on repeat. Don't use to many though as they only take the edge of the pain  But better than just paracetomol lol.
Hi Lindy! How are you today! I hope you are not suffering to much with the pain. I feel quite achy this morning and didn't sleep to well. Going to make appt see gp on Thurs just to make sure my iron levels ok.
Been having quite a few heavy periods still and last time that happened bought my iron levels down. So difficult to know with having this fibro as well.
Went to see my Dad in hospital yesterday. Had to have four bags of blood! Think he has got an ulcer from taking aspirin that his doctor prescribe to thin his blood. Got to have a test tomorrow look down into his stomach. Going to see him again tonight.
Take care everyone talk soon.
Love Tess x x
hi tess lindy, and all. the pain is still really bad and been using heat patches for three days, and my heart is playing up lots, and i'm not sure if it the amount of pain killers, so i'm going to try and get an appointment at drs, thats a major stress in itself its like trying to break into a major vault in a bank lol, talk later love sue x x x
Hi Sue & Lindy!
I think you are doing the right thing Sue going to see gp. See if gp can suggest some relief for your pain. Could be the your pain relief making your heart beat a bit faster. I should discuss that with the gp as well.
Its not very nice when you are in so much pain and can't get any relief from it. I know what you mean about making an appointment. We have to ring on the day we need an appointment and see if one available.
We can't pre book with a doctor unless they make one for you to go back to see them. We can only pre book for blood tests etc. Although saying that I have always been quite lucky ringing on the day and getting to see the same gp who understands about fibro.
My pains are not so bad today. But have a horrible headache that I am hoping wont turn into a migraine lol  Been a few stressful days travelling to hospital and back to see my dad! He is in been checked for an ulcer as he lost a lot of blood. Doing well though and quite cheerful considering
Well hope you get some positive help from your gp. Good Luck!

hi tess, sorry been away so long, been right down in the dumps, i climbing the walls with pain. finally got to see gp friday, he said painkillers arent interfering with heart, he gave me more painkillers, now im taking my 380mg per day diahydrodeine, 500mg tramadol and 1600mg at nite of brufen retard. omg they making me ill, the pain is indescribable, feeling sick, headache, shakey diarrhoea, and i think i may have started bleeding from there too. of course i going dr again tom. i really dont think i can take any more. why am i made to suffer so much. sorry for going on especially with your dad being ill, i hope he gets better soon, i thinking of you love sue xxxx
Hi Sue
I think sometimes taking too many tablets with different side effects can be worse sometimes than the symptoms of fibro. You are right to see your doctor again don't put up with it. You don't have to be sorry you are in a lot of pain and the gp needs to give you the help you deserve.
My dad is a lot better now and out of hospital. Got to go to the hospital again soon for outpatients appointment for colonoscopy but not until Dec 5.
Keep your chin up!
Take care

hi tess, i glad ur dad getting better. if you dont mind me asking, what is a colonoscopy, because i have to see a bowel surgeon on 10 dec, because my belly not been right since hysterectomy in march, and i gotta have tests but dont no what, but they said the results would be ready by the 15 and i have a follow up at gynae clinic on that date. i am going to call hospital in morn and ask what being done. love sue x x
Hi nextasy65 / Sue x.
Hi there, Have you tried Lyrica, or Gabapentine as I have had these!!!! Gabapentine did not work for me but it is a usual one the doctors are prescribing now for fibro? This however did not work for me as had no effect but Lyrica is much better, the only down side of all this is as I have OA in my hip and spine and other problems Lyrica does not help other painful ailments  One of my friends does use a tense machine and seems to help her
Hope all is ok also with you Tess, I do hope you Dad is feeling better too and Lindy hope you are ok? Bless you Di, I do hope you do get some relief too hun xxxxxx
I do hope you get some help soon Sue xx
Kind regards x
hi, i tried gabapentin when i was first diagnosed but it made put on about 3 stone, so the dr took me off themabout a year ago, still trying to get rid of the weight, but it starting to go down now. lost nearly a stone in the last month, i also have a tens machine but even on the highest setting it does very little to help, one of the symptoms of fibro is chemical intolerance so the drs watch because i have this symp, which means i always get all the side effects of any drug so try to be careful what i am given, thanks for the advice any way x
Hi Sue
Sorry just saw your post. A Colonoscopy is when they put a camera type thing up the bottom end to look at the bowel and possibly intestines. My daughter has had some before has she has crohns diease. Not very pleasant experience as they pump some air inside to get a clear picture.
Afterwards you get really windy as the air has to come out and can be a bit painful with wind pains. Best thing to do is to walk round after and gets rid of the air quicker. They do give you a local anaesthic and enough so you don't feel any discomfort. Sometimes makes you a bit sleepy afterwards. Think you can bleed a little after. But if you get really severe pain, temperature or and severe bleeding have to get in touch with hospital if you are at home. We have got dad in as a day case and will stay overnight especially as he is 85. Not a very nice test but the best way to see what is going on.
You have done well with losing a stone in a month. Keep up the good work. Hope you are not in too much pain now.
Love Tess x x
Hi there nextasy65, there are many other tablets used for fibro and i am sure there should be something to suit yourself, like you I have had side effects from medications and so could not continue with prescribed meds and so my Pain management Consultant had to change my medication......... I have used ice packs before today and I constantly use hot water bottles and I have to move it around in order to comfort other areas at one time.
If I were you I would get back to your GP and insist on help xx and if he/she isn't listening change doctors as I have done, and was a relief too, finally someone medical is listening instead of looking at me as though I was silly!!!!! Like Tess says you have done very well loosing the weight well done!!!!! Yeah Gabapentine did that to me and it is only now that I am finding the weight coming off and I feel not as bloated, as at the beginning of the year I looked nine months pregnant being on them, but thankfully the weight is coming off and I hope it continues for you too xxxx
Take care and I hope you are having a better day xxxxx
hi tess, just thought i'd update you, i had that colonoscopy thing done and screamed the place down. never felt pain like it, th dr sending me fo mri scan jan 9 and my own gp has given me valium for a few days and 4 to take on the day of the mri to sedate me, he said something must me badly wrong cos i shoulndnt have felt pain lijke that. it just seems like someone really hates me up there. enuf of me, how are you getting and how is your dad x
Hi Sue
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with your colonoscopy. That has happened to my daughter Claire before when they don't give you enough sedation. She had one when she was only 13 as she had been diagnosed with Crohns Disease. It traumatised her for a long while afterwards. She still has them every now and again but always insists they give her more sedation. Never had one myself and don't like the idea but if you have to I suppose you do it. But they could make it more comfortable for patients.
Yes my dad had his and was ok afterwards. Never said his was painful.
Stayed in hospital overnight because of his age 85. Goes to see his consultant on 30th December. Told him he had some polyps and cauterised them. Will know more when he goes to clinic but is doing ok now. Coming to me for Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day!
I am not too bad tired and aches and pains but we just have to get on with it. Still trying to keep my exercises going but difficult with having other things to do for Christmas.
How are you feeling now! Are you nearly ready for Christmas.
Well take care and good to hear from you.
Love Tess x x
