If I tap my operated leg from the heel on the floor whilst standing there is a clearly audible clicking sound..It doesn't feel dislocated, and it isn't painful, but it's a bit disconcerting.
Before I go ringing up the hospital, thought I'd check if anybody else on here has experienced this..or is it a case of the bone having to grow around the new implant.
As you will all know the first few weeks post op are always a stressful time, and the last thing you need are any extra worries..little things seem worse than they really are.
My previous op was done by a different surgeon and there was no joint movement at all, which is what is concerning me.
I'll give it a few days to see if it improves.
I really thought this 2nd op would be easier, but sods law its thrown up a few issues I didn't have with the first op.
I had ceramic on ceramic, cementless. I was doing my exercises about 2 weeks after the opp and noticed with one that my hip would make a little pop/click. It went away so assume it was the joint settling down.
My consultant did say you sometimes get squeaks etc with ceramic. Considering my arthritic hip sounded like someone breaking rocks I thought it was a good trade 😊
My ceramic hip was done five years ago. Right from the start it made scary noises. It was bending forward that caused a very audible sound. It also clunks if I bend forward with my legs together and I touch the floor. It also squeaks sometimes when I bend to a 45 degree angle. It doesn't always do it. The surgeon who did it said it is nothing to worry about, but he has retired and I had second hip replacement done by a different surgeon on other side. However, he does not do ceramic hips and so has little experience of them. He finds the noise worrying and I had a manipulation under anaesthetic to see if it was partially dislocating... He could find no problems. But he is expecting me to have yearly xrays to keep an eye on it. I am not happy about this due to the high levels of radiation I could potentially be having over a number of years. So I will be discussing it with him. Of the two hips, the ceramic is the best. I have complete flexibility and movement in it. Were it not for the noises, it would be like my own hip. So don't worry, it's early days and the noises may just go away. It's weird though because I feel part robot sort of.
I think it is probably a clunk from the muscles getting the tolerance of the joint to just click and only you and feel it...So I say dont worry, it will all be fine.
I think the bad combination of pain, lack of sleep, and being stuck indoors has got me a bit down, which isn't really like me..and I'm not one for watching TV or reading all day
Well guys ,very pleased to report I'm feeling much better today, after getting 5hrs continuous sleep last night and having my dressing removed, and having my first shower.
OMG Paulus it all starts on Monday for me...Hat the thought of the knife on my legs...Ohhh I am petrified...but needs doing to get better as quick as I can sorry for the weak hearted, but I am very scared...as old as I am.....Ian.
