New patient also taking steroids

Hey, I read a lot of the posts here before starting taing the orlista that my GP prescribed to help me undosome of the side effects of my sterooids and inabiliy to exercise. Does everyone expeience the side effects described, do they take a while to start? I have been apprehnsively staying close to home and feel great. Just don't want to speak too soon!!!

Also does anyone else also take prednisolone as I am very aware that you you shouldn't take tablets with orlistat as it may stop you absorbing them but i a meant to take tem with food aswell, any ideas?! :?

Well this seems like a great site for supporting each other which might come to be essential as I have just moved counties and had am amazing GP and nurse and now have an awful GP who basically told me to stop eating and being lazy, whoops!

Good luck everyone and thank you for the help you gave me before even starting the tablets. Sure I will be back in a day or two complaining of horrendous side effects!!!

Welcome....everyone is different and reacts in different ways, you've probably read this over and over again....only with your own experience will you get to know your body....not everyone has side effects...in fact most of us will tell you that it makes little difference to their lives other than counting grams of fat.

All the best for a slim future.

hi there,

i am also on prednisolone as i suffer from lupus sle. I just wondered how you have found the orlistat although i notice its only been a few days?

i havent taken mine yet, my gp wants me to lose 4lb in 4 weeks before she will prescribe them so that she knows i can stick to a low fat diet... so the dairy milk bars and chips are no no!

hope you get on well.

Hey Shelly,

I have now been taking Xenical for five days and weighed myself today and have lost 5lbs so quite chuffed and would seriously encourage you to work like mad to loose that 4lbs. I had to loose some before too and it is hard when you can't exercise but was worth it, sounds like you have a good doctor too, just hope my new one is!

I am still seeing if my new meds routine is going to work as obviously the worst case scenario is that we don't absorb or pred fully but so far so good. I take one Orlistat tablet first thing in the morning before breakfast and then about and hour and half to two hours later I take my steroids and antihistamines. Not sure what how I am going to do it if this proves not to work properly and I have an exacerbation as I need to take them early in the day and preferably with so if you try a different way and it works let me know!!

All the best, let us know how you get on, it is worth the big push I amso excited about losing my 'steroid-moon-face'. that is what I keep thinking about and I think that preparing before by loosing weight by yourself helps limit the side effects as I know I have only been going five days but have had nothing like what some people describe.

Good luck

Nicola
