Newbie- Day 1 of Citalopram 10mg

Hello I'm Nettie and I am new to this forum. I've been dealing with anxiety since I was a teenager. I have had some very bad anxiety the past few months. It started with selling our home and then being told we didn't qualify for a home loan after already selling our home. We were told we were approved for the loan before we sold our home and that was the reason we sold our home. So long story short we received a loan with a high interest rate and got into the house we wanted so now we are going through a refinance. Not only did this all happen in August but I am a Technology Teacher at a elementary school and when I came back to begin the new school year I was without a classroom for a month with no computers. I have my classroom back now. I have my 16 year old sister living with me, my husband and three children and she has been with us over a year now. So my anxiety has been through the roof with all the stress in my life.

My counselor suggested I take FMLA because my anxiety has gotten so bad I don't want to go to work. I wake up to get ready and feel sick and my heart races. I was approved for FMLA until January and I'm waiting to see if I get approved for short term disability. I've been prescribed to take Citalopram 10mg for a week then go to 20mg a day after. I'm on the first day and its 4:50am, I am having a hard time sleeping and feel jittery. I've read these symptoms get better. Any tips on how to overcome these side effects for the next couple of weeks?

Thank you

N.

Try taking your medication in the evening about a half hour before bed it may help you sleep and be more awake during the morning

You need to allow these medications to work, it generally takes five weeks until the drug will work and the contrindications start to reduce. Be patient.

I had some bad side effects and even though I was so weak and fatigued I forced myself to go walking and man I feel so much better!!! Hang in there know it is just side effects and it will get better!

Thank you. It's good I have time off because I would hate to feel like this while teaching a class.

Thank you. It's good to know from others who have been through this that it gets better.
