Newly diagnosed

Hi all

I have been feeling awful for ages now, lightheaded, dizzy, tired (no matter how long I sleep), problems with memory, and tingling numbness in my left arm. Put all of this down to stress of work and family problems! Until the beginning of Feb when I felt like I was dying!! I had no energy every where hurt, I was panicky and having palpatations so finally got myself to the Gp bloods showed TSH 14.25 and T4 10.9 thyroid antibodies greater than 600.

My Gp prescribed thyroxine 50mcgs and told me I would need my bloods to be re-done in 3 months.

The diagnosis makes sense when reading up on symptoms, hair loss/thinning for the past 3 yrs (put down to motherhood) difficulty losing weight, fluid retention etc, the thing that concerns me is I dont seem to find any information linking numbness with hypothyroidism, I often find my left arm and leg feel heavy/numb has anyone else had this problem?

Would appreciate any help or advice as recieved nothing from my Gp!

Thanks in advance :D

Hey Nikita, i had tingling and numbness feeling in fingers/hands and also my feet! My blood tests are showing borderline now (11 months since started thyroxine) and this is one symptom that does not appear to bother me anymore. Im definately on the mend, be patient and give it time to get the right doseage of thyroxine.

Thanks for taking the time to respond Lou, good to hear that its normal to have numbness.

hey, just regarding the numbness feeling you mentioned!!.. (just newley diagnosed last month!)...i can relate to that!! for a while i got this funny slighly numb-er feeling in my right arm. it felt heavyier than the other one and picking up things seemed more of an effort than with my left arm.. and it shaked a bit! at first i thought it was some sort of strain from using my arm more?!!... carrying my heavy laptop bag in that hand and general stuff etc (im right handed) so for a few weeks i deliberatly used the other hand more thinking it would go away (which it didnt.) i did mention this to the doctor along with the other symptoms (the coldness and tiredness and low mood stuff), and although she didnt say that actual symptom could be due to thyroid problems, symptoms collectively, she suspected it as a possibility. the blood test showed it and i was then diagnosed.so..yea! :-D
