Emorroidi esterne non trombizzate

Hi,

I have been diagnosed with a non-thrombosed external hemorrhoid. I have a hard lump outside my anus about the size of a large grape for the last 10 days. The hemorrhoid just arrived out of the blue, and the pain was pretty intense during the first couple of days. Thankfully, the pain has improved over the last couple of days, but the lump is still the same size. I was told by a doctor who examined it in the Emergency Department, that it is a non-urgent case, but that it still needs to be removed. He has referred me to a surgeon in the Outpatients Dept. of the local hospital (waiting time is at list 4 months).

The thought of having it remove is really scary, and I’m extremely anxious about this. I have read that pain following removal is worse than the pain from the hemorrhoid itself. Has anyone had any experience with this condition? Any advice would be appreciated.

A haemorrhoidectomy is notoriously (very) painful post-operatively. No way to sugar-coat that I am afraid. I take it it’s definitely not possible to reinsert. If so I don’t know what other option you have but to go through it once it’s become permanently external.
