Hi guys,
I've read numerous times about the different types of IBS but for many, many years I've been affected by starting approx 3 days a week (constipated other days) with a normal-ish bm only to end up with diarrhea accompanied by wickedly painful spasms. I end up being off & on the loo for hours on the day of a bm. Very rarely I do have a 'normal' bm.
This problem is/has always been so debilitating that working away from home has never been an option for me. I've seen many GP's and a few specialists, had a hemarroidectomy last year (no bleeding now and a little less pain thanks to this op) but the spasms/diarrhea persists. My current GP prescribed Mebeverine last week but it's made the problem worse.
Do any of you suffer this pattern of IBS?
I do have other health issues - RA, Lupus & Fibro. On annual Rituximab infusions, prednisone, Leflunomide, Losec, Amitriptyline.
Hiya. I presume you have had tests to rule out celiac disease?
Hi Louise,
yes, tested negative for celiac. Tried many potions & diets to no avail.
I've just been reading about 'Symprove' It seems a lot of peeps have found this benefical. Would love to try it myself.
Look up Tapping therapy, I just heard about it going to give it a go myself
if you are fluctuating between constipation and diarrhoea you need to take something to regulate you, like movicol, as you could be getting overflow diarrhoea
Thanks for your reply leeniepie. I have tried movical which didn't help. I have many prescribed & many OTC products which haven't helped. Every now'n and again I give each one another try. I've started something new today - organic Chlorella Powder which is reported to be very beneficial for the digestive system.
Thanks for replying louise. Please do let us know you going with the Tapping. I googled to see what it is about.
I know it's not the same, but I've had acupuncture for my digestive problems but didn't get a result from it. I've started a new supplement today - see below.
have you ever kept a food diary?
Hi Lennie,
Yes, have done and currently doing so. Unlike a lot of IBS peeps, I don't have quick reactions to food - although chicken, other than organic, free range, is something that I do.
Can't update on the Chlorella yet - hopefully tomorrow ;-)
I thought I'd been sleep typing when I read this! You have just described my symptoms.
Only difference is I'm on sertraline, hydroxchloroquine, Leflunomide,:Amitriptyline, HRT, omeprazole and finally pregabalin.
I take colifac when I start with the pain (if I can manage to take them before I have to go!)
I hope you find something that works. Let me know if you don't mind?
L
Yay - pleased to 'meet' you LoobyLou!! The pattern of my digestive problems have my medical folk stumped so they class it as IBS - wonder if it's the same for you?
How long have you been taking the RA drugs? I'm 27 years now (RA diagnosed when 32) and have the bowel problem all that time - no periods of remission! As we've been on some of the same meds I shall widen my research to include some of these drugs & our particular bowel prob.
I was on Plaquenil (hydroxchloroquine) too for many years. I've just come through a miserable time after taking colifac (Mebeverine) for a very short time. It totally didn't agree with me!
I've been trialing chlorella (a fresh water algae) the past 10 days or so. It's more for the constipation side of things and after 5 days of said constipation, finally went and pleased to say didn't get the excruiciating cramps as bad as is usual. It is becoming increasingly difficult to drink tho as it's so strong smelling - much stronger than dried seaweed - which I have trialed in the past.
I have read great reviews for a non-dairy probiotic called Symprove. This is very expensive and unavailable down here in NZ but I'll look at the costs of getting it from the UK more closely, if the chlorella isn't effective long term.
Oops, I see I've already mentioned trialing chlorella.
i dont have quick reactions eaither except with coffee, nuts and dairy. everything else takes between 4 hrs and a day or so.
hows it going?
