Older person trying to improve their eyes

I’m 57 and have worn glasses since kindergarten. I’ve had prism added to my prescription for a decade or so. I recently found that there is disagreement over prism, some claiming that it makes the eyes lazier and just compounds the problem, with the prism having to be greater as time goes on. I wear progressive bifocals. Without them, I can function, but cannot read anything but the largest print. I can focus neither close or far without glasses.

With a history such as this, would there be any hope for improvement with eye exercises to regain some of my lost ability to focus? I’m under no illusion that I could ever be glasses free, but would like to halt if not reverse my trend.
