I’m currently taking one fish oil and one flaxseed oil capsule for dry eyes. I’ve noticed in the past that taking 2 fish oil capsules a day can give me a bloody nose. Just wondering if others were advised to stop either supplement before cataract surgery?
I take an Omega 3 supplement, and used to take flaxseed, but dropped it in favour of the Omega 3. I used to have issues with nosebleeds, but that seems to have gone away now that I use blood pressure medications to reduce my blood pressure. I got diagnosed with hypertension at the same time as being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes about 23 years ago now. I take perindopril and bisoprolol to both reduce the risk of diabetes complications, and control blood pressure. Coincidentally my issues with nosebleeds went away. I have never seen any suggestion that Omega 3 thins the blood or causes nosebleeds. . I made a complete list of my medications and supplement before each cataract surgery. They ask you to discontinue them the day of the surgery, but not before in my case.
Thanks Ron! I'll double check that my supplements are all on the patient portal.
