Hi. I had an alarming choking incident three months ago and thankfully was OK but the diagnosis was that it was a bacterial stomach infection (h pylori) that had led to this. I was prescribed two lots of antibiotics for two weeks then a four-week course of Omeprazole. Things seemed to be fine though I was still having mild stomach pains and signs of stomach acid. I started taking Omeprazole again but stopped after one week as it seems to be causing flatulence and bloating, so much so that I have to take Deflatine (non-subscription) to ease the bloating and it does work. So was I right in my assumption that Omeprazole caused this? It is only two days in since I stopped taking it but I’m hoping that things will improve.
Any comments would be welcome.
Many thanks.
I think that can be a side effect. If it doesn’t improve after you stop taking the omeprazole, it is probably something else. Maybe a bit of IBS, if it continues ask for Alverine I find that the most helpful for trapped wind.
it could be the infection as not cleared up completely if it doesn’t improve I would co back yo your doctor
what is alverine?.
It is an antispasmodic which helps IBS symptoms. It can be called spasmonal as a brand name.
Yes I was very bloated on it. I found the side effects of the drug much worse than the original complaint it was meant to treat.
I advise you to google “ask a patient prilosec” and take a good look at the patient reviews and comments before deciding to take this drug. I took it for years and it caused me so many problems I’m still recovering from even a month after stopping them.
