I'm a female that has HSV2. I contracted it the first week in November, and ever since being diagnosed I have been on daily acyclovir for suppressive therapy. I haven't had any outbreaks since my initial OB. I'm wondering -- if a guy wants to give me oral sex, what are the chances of passing it to him that way? Or are there any other risks?
I got hsv2 from hsv1.....
So I guess the worse he can get is hsv1....I rather have that then hsv2...sigh
I was wondering the same thing it's feels like my sec life won't ever be the same
If you are on suppressive therapy and you dont have any outbreaks you are probly fine. Ask him to get the tests, chances are he may already have it.
HSV-2 rarely infects the oral region and is nearly always genital, so the risk is minimal. Be wary of any potential breakthrough signs and symptoms and obviously avoid anything sexual if and when you do. New infections are more infectious during the first few months to a year, but daily suppressive therapy should offset that.
You cannot get Type 2 from Type 1, as they are two different viruses. The number is the virus "name", not the location, so it sounds like you have Type 1, just genitally.
What's the difference in them?
Genital Type 1 sheds and recurs far less than genital Type 2, and is thus less infectious, bothersome and has fewer complications. It is the better type to have genitally and doesn't typically require daily suppressive meds. Oral Type 1 (cold sores) is actually more infectious than genital Type 1, since it is in its site of preference and sheds more orally.
So Witch one is worsee?
N can it get passed on quickly. My sores just healed up down there n was just curious
As I said above, genital Type 1 is better, so genital Type 2 is worse. In order of shedding/infectiousness, from most to least, it's genital Type 2, oral Type 1, genital Type 1, then oral Type 2.
Ian Fraizer stated there really isn't two types rather location
DNA-wise, HSV-1 and HSV-2 are around 50% the same, so around 50% different. They're certainly related, but not really the same either, hence why Type 1 causes few problems genitally compared to Type 2. That 50% difference makes a difference!
HSV 1 is now proven to cause as must if not more complications than hsv2
Both have their range of risks and complications, but genital Type 2 is associated with more bothersome and potentially serious issues than genital Type 1.
Elaborate on complications.
Besides shedding/recurring more frequently, genital Type 2 is more often implicated in cases of neuralgia, it increases the risk of acquiring HIV if sexually exposed (even without lesions and regardless of taking the meds), and it increases the risk of developing cervical cancer in those co-infected with high-risk HPV (versus the latter alone). More likely to be an issue in childbirth as well.
Thanks. I understand that HSV1 can cause HSV1-genital, so I guess I was kind of wondering if receiving oral sex could give HSV2-oral, or if that isn't really a thing. OR -- If I am shedding at the time, could that still give regular HSV2 genital -- it would just enter the body in a different way? Considering I contracted this on November 7th -- it's been 4 months now. Is it always a year before you're less infectious or does it really depend on the person?
I know -- I'm feeling the same way. I haven't been with anyone since I found out, but I've gone on dates. I'm scared to open up to people about this.
Me I'm so scared omg I think about this everyday n night it kills me sometimes I get depressed cus I'm not th same
HSV-2 rarely causes oral infections, so the risk of passing it either way is minimal. First year is most infectious for gHSV-2 for most people. gHSV-1 probably more just the first few months before adequate antibody production.
