28 year old female: So 13 days ago i was driving home from visiting my mother in the hospital. I have been under a lot of stress due my mother’s diagnosis of breast cancer and being her primary caregiver. I stopped to grab some food and noticed while eating my tongue started to burn. I stopped eating the food thinking i was having a reaction. The burning never stopped! I seen my doctor 8 days later and she prescribed me Nystatin which i took 10 days later. Ive been taking it now for 3 and a half days. As soon as i started taking it my symptoms got worse. The roof of my mouth felt like i stuck cotton up there and is white, my tongue is white, my taste buds are enlarged and off and on itchiness. The symptoms don’t seem to me dissipating much. The roof of my mouth seems to be improving but VERY slowly. I went to urgent care yesterday where the doctor told me to keep using the medication unless i feel it’s causing it to get worse… not helpful at all. This morning i woke up and the middle of my tongue feels hard like a callous and it hurts and is swollen. When i look at my tongue though, it looks normal but is a little white.
i have been rinsing twice a day with salt water, once with baking soda and water and then taking the medication regularly which is 5 mg 4x a day. I’m going absolutely mad. Its been 2 weeks of pain and if it is oral thrush (not that it was formally diagnosed) why isn’t it going away!? I can barely eat but when i do it’s very bland food like plain rice and plain chicken. I’m going insane.
