PAE in UK

Has anyone had this done in Southampton? The Forum seems to relate to the operation experiences in the United States. Thanks.

Southampton was one of the hospitals that did trials of PA a few years ago.

Because PAE was approved as cost-effective by NICE only a year ago, experience in the UK seems limited. As I am 76 and wanted it done while still alive, I opted to pay for it myself rather than wait for a service here. Research showed that a clinic in Poland with an experienced interventional radiologist could do it for £2500 all in (but excluding travel) I opted for that in June 2018. It has worked for me with nightime visits to the toilet reduced from 5 or 6 to 1 or 2. If you want more details, please DM me with any questions

Not Southampton, Colchester Essex.

Southampton offer this but only if you meet the right criteria. I didn't as my prostate is too small (28g). I think they have a good track record for PAE.

Thanks. My prostate size was 130ml. It is now 80ml according to an ultrasound scan

Laser surgery would have reduced it by more than that. 80 grms is still a big prostate. How selective is PAE in reducing specific lobes ? I had my GL procedure on a 75 grm prostate in 2004 that reduced it to 30 grms. By 2013 it had regrown to 135 grms and reduced to 55 grms with Thulium/laser surgery. ( RevoLix )

I don't think that 80ml was large enough to prompt urologist to suggest I would get any benefit from PAE. I am happy so far in the reduction achieved. I don't want to consider any other treatment unless the prostate gives me repeat problems

It depend on where it is pressing as even quite small prostates often need treated. I was offered a TURP that I refused in 1995 when my prostate was 35 grms.
