Dolor 4 semanas después de la cirugía

4 weeks post op and having pain in hip that just feels like arthritis pain. This is most noticeable after a few hours sleep. I have stopped cocodamol and paracetamol doesn't help much. Is this normal at this stage.

Hi attractac

Sorry you are in pain.

It could be the way you are sleeping. I would phone up your consulttants secretary and let her know you are in  pain. It is better to err on the side of caution and at 4 weeks or any stage you should not be feeling pain like that.where pain killers do not help.

It doesn't seem to bother me during the day but then a toothache always strikes at night too. It's not excruciating more like the early osteoarthritis pain that I used to refer to as a toothache in my butt. I might try a cocodamol tonight tho I hate them.

Got a good six hours and two more last night so that is a blessing.

Well if it bothers you at least you have a choice to get it checked out. I have pain from my collapsed hip when I lay down on the bed. I have to lay sitting up propped up by pillows because it hurts quite a bit.I can't lay flat at all. I do get the odd niggle from the operated side too. it feels like I can feel the metalk more. but then I guess because I have lost a lot of mucle in that area it is normal. I hope the co codamol helps. Why do you not like taking them ?

Good morning !!!!

6 hours plus 2, darling ... that is very good news ...  what side are you sleeping on? if on unoperated side, there will be some pulling sensation ... I for sure thought it was OA pain or the new hardware, but apparently it was the muscle -

I am not big on pain meds either, however take them - if not I am in pain, especially now with the other hip (yig!!!) -

see how you do with the cocodamol - I also have to take 3 x 1000 mg paracetamol which I do ... there is a reason for it, but I forgot ...side effect of celebrex ...

I think it is pretty normal ... but you know what to do if you are worried or the pain gets worse, right?    call your doctor or go to urgent care --

warm hug and take care

It could be the way you are sleeping, are you sleeping on your back? if so make sure there are plenty of pillows round you and put one under your knees it helps love Gill xxx

My stomach always seem funny with cocodamol even tho I take prunes porridge to keep bowel moving. Spose I'm a bit afraid of getting addicted too. It's pouring down here today so no outdoors but going out for meal with daughter tonight an hours journey away. It's her 40th so maybe I'll take some pain meds so I can enjoy . last clexine today. Hoorrah.

Yep still in back with cushion under ankles to protect heel. Tried unoperated side once but too much pull on scar. I think you had same experience. Still got 6 good hours sleep then two more so not complaining. Doing longer walks tho only half mile round trip and exercises regularly so hopefully this is a bit of knitting going on. I looked at scar in a magnifying mirror. Wah no prizes for sewing there tho nurses all said it is neat.

Never heard of celebrex. I'm still on back. Tried unoperated leg but too much tugging on scar. Hope you're having sunshine in Holland

I know ... I was told the same ... wonder how a not-so-neat scar looks to them !!!  bigger than I thought too - sad smiley face .. well, depends on the angle you look at it

A pillow shold be ybder your knees as well xx

Hi attracta - tell your dr about funny tummy as they can give you omeprazole or similar to stop tummy damage - I take codeine and anti inflammatories for other hip had had done for 18 months. Came off them for op and other pain relief with no withdrawal signs so started taking them again

hip hiphooray for Clexane finishing xxx

Hi attractac

I am 4 nearly 5 weeks post op was told by my physio that there would be stiffness in my new hip after sleeping and it would take a little of moving around for this to ease.  I sleep on my unoperated side with my knees bent and a pillow between my legs and my ankles resting on the end of the pillow if that makes sense?  The only time I'm thankful that I have short legs but I do have a full length pillow that I use to support my whole side if I feel like rolling over a bit more.  I have pain at night if I've been on my feet a lot and will take a Tramadol if I need it.  I wouldn't worry, you're only 4 weeks in but certainly check with your physio if you're worried.

Hi attractac

You won't get addicted to co codamol. I was taking  them for ages and don't get any withdrawl symptoms when I come off them. They are the best for me at controlling the pain, but they do make you constipated. That's good for me because I am normally the other way round!

The pain could be from lying on your back - you are managing a decent amount of sleep so I wouldn't imagine pain is too severe. I find the pain still comes and goes a bit dependant on my activities during the day

Hope you feel better soon but get it checked out if it persists

Ahh I see. I know what you mean and yes there is a chance of getting adicted. that is why I only took mine when I couldn't bear the pain any more.

Actually since I have managed to get rid of the excess water round my legs I havn't had to take so many meds.So it is making me think it was lactic acid not just excess water I was dealing with. But I am able to walk a lot further now.

Same here. Rain is lashing down. the wind is high and the skys look stormy. I have had to put the light on in the lounge it is getting so dark.

I hope you enjoy tonight. It might be an idea to take your meds with you. but taking them would mean no beer.

I am hoping to come over to Ireland next summer. I have some friends live near Dublin I meet every other year when Irlend come to thrash Wales in the rugby at the millenium stadium and I have a mate lives in the north. so will be getting the frerry over from Hollyhead to Dublin. I am going to spend the day in Dublin and taking a few photos then getting the train up to Newry.and spending the summer there.. All I have been through will be so worth it just for that and the chance to taste " REAL " Guinness.

Not lucky enough to have physio. asked gp to refer me 10/ days ago but nothing yet..Going to take cocodamol tonight. I'm lying down on back now and realising that I'm holding op side slightly off bed so maybe after a few hours of that it would be painful. I also have to keep checking my sitting as I tend to save op side. It is such a learning process and thank heavens for this forum or I'd have been on to hospital a lot more often.

Finishing clexine this evening so maybe a wee glass of red. 11 year old heard me saying no wine due to blood thinner. She asked why and I said because alcohol thins the blood. "Why not drink wine then instead of injections" was her reply. Smart girl.

Newry is lovely. So many lovely places to visit. I hope by that time you are all better and fit for loads of walking and Guinness.

Thanks Linda. Yes agree its not too severe or I wouldn't sleep. I have done quite a bit these last few days as was able to get outside.

Have a great day.

That's not good attractac, we are extremely lucky in Oz to have such good health care obviously although everyone still complains!  It sounds like your wound is closer to your butt than on the side of your hip?  When I was sleeping on my back I would put a pillow under the knee of my operated side and I found that it took the pressure off the hip a bit.  I would definitely follow up with your GP on the Physio front.

I hope things get easier for you. xx
