Hi Kay. I wanyed to ask how long your recovery time was? I had an ENDOSCOPY done yesterday, & I feel like im in worst shape than Yesterday. I have already had 2 Random Panick attacks today. My chest has major discomfort, I feel like its tight!. I spoke to the Nurse earlier over the phone when the office called to check on me. She kept saying to Eat a cough drop. I was like No!. I do not have Dysphagia(trouble swallowing) i repeated this twice. She didnt have a good answer for me, and Maybe didnt believe me, Idk. How long will I feel like this?. Ugh. Im stressed
I had my endoscopy done this morning at 9am. Everything went well. My Dr said there was no inflammation and all looks great. I felt fine afterwards and ate normally. 4 hours later I ate one vanilla wafer and it was like I was swallowing glass. It hurt not in my throat but where my sternum is, in my esophagus. I also have chest pains now and bad indigestion. It hurts when I swallow, but only when it passes the center of my chest, I can literally feel it scraping the esophagus as it rolls down. Even water. I was hopeful after procedure because I felt so great but now am extremely worried something happened. It started after my Drs office was closed but I wrote them an email and will call tomorrow morning..
Hey Alli!. Its as if i wrote your response!. That is exactly how i am feeling....And today is day 2.... The nurse acted lime it was all ok. And said eat a cough drop. What the!. I said, No!. Its not my Throat, its down more in ny chest area. Ugh. I hope it goes away fast!. Im miserable. Even water is Not easy to swallow bcuz once it hits my chest area, i feel pain. Eeeeek. Let us know what they tell you.
Ugh I’m sorry they didn’t understand you. Hopefully I’ll have more luck with my Drs and will reply back to keep you informed!
Hi Ali and Heleng - I'm going to give you some reassurance...
I had my endoscopy a couple of days ago. Swallowing my own spit and even soft foods became painful - it hurt in the chest area of my oesophagus. I think they must have taken some biopsies there or something.
My pain has improved considerably (70%). It still hurts but no way near as much even when the paracetamol's pain killing effect has worn off. I started to think maybe they did all kinds of damage, but you have to be patient.
Advice:
- Refrain from speaking - write notes to your family. Don't shout from another room.
- Have paracetamol every 4 hours (I had soluble paracetamol to avoid the strain of swallowing)
- Have soup with soft bread (dip soft bread into the soup). I had raspberry cheesecake which was very easy on the throat. Have yoghurt for protein. Don't bother with meats. This is all I had. Time to be strict, sorry.
- Chew your food slowly and as much as possible (we're all meant to be doing this anyway).
Go to your doctor if you have the more severe issues that they talk about, or if your pain hasn't subsided over the course of a few more days.
Hi curiousmind and Heleng.
I woke up feeling still super sore but as the day went on I was able to eat a little more normally. My Dr has been amazing. I tried to call the nurse hotline but apparently she prefers to take calls herself so I accidentally woke her up 😣! But she was listened carefully to my concerns and told me as long as I don’t have a fever and don’t get worse I should heal soon. She put in some meds to my pharmacy to numb my throat and esophagus. Gi cocktail and another med I can’t think of name as of now. But it has improved! I’m on day two and I’m hopeful! Thanks curiousmind for your response also very reassuring! Good luck everyone. I will post tomorrow evening with update. 🤞
Brilliant news for making a bit of progress and being able to eat more normally.
Please in your update it would be great if you can name the other med, and perhaps make an additional comment on what helped you.
I am now 80% better. This pain for me I'm sure will be gone in 2 days, tops.
Hi, So last night around 3am. I started to feel some weird sensation in my chest....No Pain, just Strange, Maybe an Itchy feeling, it kept me up.. its Annoying as Hell....One thing for sure is, I will never get an ENDOSCOPY ever, ever!. They said, " Its Gonna be fine, & Everyone has one" but they didnt Say that so many People have Some type of Complication!. Grrrrr. My anxiety has been Off the charts, as well as my Blood pressure.....I have been eating cough drops, & Tylenol like crazy!. Both seem to help ....
Has anyone experienced such a feeling? Its not Sore, but Itchy....And im super Frustrated! Its been 4 days, & im still going through some S**t.....Grrrrr
That sounds more like allergy to me. I have Oral Allergy Syndrome, and I get severe itching in my bronchial passages if I eat raw pears, yellow apples or hazel nuts. It's maddening - feels like an itch I can't reach all round my rib cage. Are you quite sure you're not allergic to something you've been taking to make yourself feel better?
Don't get anxious about your other symptoms. This will all settle down in the next few weeks.
The hardest part about endoscopies are actually getting yourself to have it done. You braved it and had it done. The after-effects will be resolved. You didn't suffer perforation for example otherwise you would've had extremely severe issues but it either sounds like you're having an allergy response like what Lily said - which is heightened because the area of your chest has been left sore and weaker temporarily by the endoscopy - or it could be that the itching effect is just some kind of scab from soreness that is clearing so it's best to have softer foods until it's clearing properly.
You have to trust that it will go, I did. If it hasn't cleared in the next 4 days whilst you've been taking all of the right measures (I suggested some above), then I would personally see the doctor only then. Although for reassurance, you can just call the department and speak to someone.
Calm your anxiety, the worst is done. Life is for living.
Thank you....I actually feel better today. Your probably right. I know they took 2 Biopsys so maybe thats why it feels itch bcuz its healing. Also, your def. Right about one thing, it took alot of courage, for me anyway to get an ENDOSCOPY...I knew i had to get it done, so i did. . Thanks for the replies yall
Excellent news. I too am completely better. All the best!
Been busy with Easter weekend. But I am completely better. I guess for anyone else who comes on here following us, it is common especially if they take biopsy. The pain will go away after a few days! Good luck to everyone
I had endoscopy and colonoscopy yesterday morning. Throat feels swollen inside and chest pain making it difficult to swallow. I went in due to ongoing lower abdominal discomfort. No upper GI symptoms. When I come out of the procedure the doc tells my wife that I had a constriction in my esophagus (Shatzski's ring) that he dilated so i may have a little sore throat. My wife taped this conversation so I know that's all he said about it! There had been no discussion of this prior to the procedure. And the potential for days of moderate to severe discomfort should have been discussed. I am a dentist and I always try to explain the potential for pain or discomfort to patients so that they don't become overly concerned if it happens. And if it doesn't happen, then great. But give people a heads up! This is ridiculous to say the least. Fortunately I feel confident based on the experience of others on this post that this will pass in a couple more days. Thanks to all for your posts.

Oops - wrong key and no edit function on this site!
As I was saying - I too was always angry when doctors refused to warn patients of possible after-effects of procedures, ditto side-effects of drugs (and forbade the nurses to do so as well, sometimes on pain of dismissal). As you may have worked out, the rationale for this was the idea that if you tell patients they might suffer some effects, they'll immediately imagine they're getting them. Apparently they'd rather have their patients fly into a panic, imagining they've been seriously harmed, as many less knowledgeable have done on these boards.
Given your status as a fellow professional, perhaps you could raise this matter with your doctor?
I wish you a quick recovery.
Lily
Hi there,
I had an endoscopy under general anaesthetic about 5 days ago. (I have had colonoscopies before with the same doctor, and they have always been without incident.) I did experience some discomfort in the chest and upper abdomen - also under the ribs at the back. Also, I have felt quite nauseous since the procedure, although this is now subsiding. Prior to the procedure, my symptoms seemed to indicate I might have an ulcer. However, the biopsy results have ruled this out, and I am now being tested for something else. Glad I had the endoscopy as I feel one step closer to finding out why I am feeling ill. ill.
Just had EGD yesterday afternoon Only had throat spray was very uncomfortable but managed it, soon as the throat spray wore off I had a little burning feeling in my chest but seemed to ease after a glass of water. I come home had some tea (tuna pasta) and a couple cups of tea then went out and done some work in the garden. When I came in to wash my hands I noticed that my eyelids had a rash over them so I popped into the doctors to see if they could just take a look turns out it’s from the reching that’s caused the blood vessels in my eye lids to rupture basically got two black eyes this also wasn’t mentioned as a possible effect. Went to bed fine but was woken at 3am with terrible pain in my chest tried to sleep it off but couldn’t nod back off started to panic and got my heart racing was just about to leave for A&E before I read this as I thought I was having a heart attack. I must say I suffer from an abnormal heart rhythm which makes me very chest sensitive anyway but so glad I found you guys nice to know I’m not alone with this pain
Update : Well about 3-4 days after my endoscopy the feeling in my throat of swelling or fullness had decreased almost to the point of not being noticeable. However, the pain in my chest that made it difficult to get food down, (even hurt to swallow water), took about 5-6 days for significant improvement. I am now back to normal thankfully. Unfortunately there are no definitive answers to my original symptoms. Sigh..
Hi Matt..so i was in the same boat as you. The ENDOSCOPY seemed to make me feel worse!
So anyway, they found out i had H pylori. Which is A bad Bacteria, & so on....How ever, thats not whats causing my chest pain!. When i eat, i get pain in my chest, bloating, & its just awful!. So now i eat easy & lite meals. I have to chew my food almost as if i am eating Apple sauce. Yep. Suxx...Anyway. So today i had another Procedure done, called Manometry....Thats probably your Dr.s next move. The tube is inserted in your nose & goes to your Stomache. It has several sensors...Its not fun at all, so FYI. I am Hoping they figure out my Issue Asap!. Im miserable....anyway. good luck!
