J'ai subi une EGD hier avec sédation. Hier, je me sentais plutôt bien, à part une légère gêne thoracique en respirant profondément. Aujourd'hui, je n'ai pas d'appétit et j'ai une gêne en avalant, ainsi qu'une gêne persistante dans la poitrine. J'attends un rappel de mon médecin. En attendant, je lis sur les perforations et je me demande si cela semble grave. Je ne veux pas me rendre aux urgences pour subir d'autres tests si c'est normal. someone a-t-il déjà eu une douleur comme celle-ci après une endoscopie ? Merci beaucoup.
Hi Penny, doesn't sound remotely like perforation to me. (I'm a former nurse btw.) Perforation would cause sudden unbearable pain, and you'd collapse in shock.
All kinds of reasons why this could be going on. I'd say you can afford to wait for your doctor to call back unless there's any serious deterioration.

i hope you've had the call and has put your mind at rest. It doesn't sound like a perforation I don't think. More likely the after effects from the scope the procedure itself, the air that is blown inside to aid viewing and maybe biopsies. It should settle over the next few days. It can be quite traumatic for some people and that obviously has an impact on how you feel afterwards. Rest and recover and hope all is well.

Ma gorge était très irritée deux jours après mon EGD, donc je pense que c'est normal, mais je ne suis pas sûre pour la douleur thoracique. Si elle ne disparaît pas, j'appellerais votre médecin.
Sorry to ask but I have same thing as you after endoscopy day before yesterday. Did your pain go or did you see your doctor or have to go to A & E. I'm really scared it's caused something and I don't know what it could be. I'm calling my doctor tomorrow though.
Salut, désolé que vous ayez mal. Le mien a heureusement disparu, il s'est estompé lentement au cours de la journée suivante, et tout est redevenu normal depuis. J'ai appelé le médecin gastro-entérologue et quand il a finalement rappelé, il ne semblait pas comprendre de quelle sorte de douleur je parlais - mais il ne pensait pas que cela semblait grave et à l'heure où il a rappelé, je pense que la sensation avait cessé. Hi penny! i am hoping you will see this as i am having similar discomfort. I had an upper endoscopy, and right after i was fine and had a smoothie, however, i went and had lunch where i ate bread and i think that was a really bad idea...because from then on (its been 2 full days) i have had a strange discomfort in my chest behind my sternum, especially when i breathe in deeply. when i swallow i have the hardest time getting it down so i am discouraged to even eat. even swallowing water hurts...it feels almost as if I have taken a large pill and it is stuck (even though i havent). i cant tell if its gotten better since the procedure because i havent eaten much. is this similar to whar you felt?

J'ai dû revenir en arrière et relire mon premier message car j'oublie peu à peu comment c'était exactement après mon endoscopie. Je me souviens cependant de la douleur que j'avais lorsque je respirais profondément, ainsi que de l'inconfort général dans ma poitrine par la suite, et c'était très frustrant que le médecin et l'infirmière à qui j'ai parlé agissaient comme si c'était si rare de ressentir une douleur quelconque par la suite (alors qu'il semble que beaucoup de gens aient un inconfort par la suite). La seule chose rassurante que j'ai trouvée (et qui semblerait s'appliquer également dans votre situation) est que les signes d'un problème sérieux sont apparemment beaucoup plus graves. Mon inconfort a disparu en quelques jours. J'ai l'impression, en lisant à ce sujet, que la douleur après une endoscopie est beaucoup plus courante que ce que pensent les médecins ? Mais je dirais de définitivement appeler votre médecin si vous êtes préoccupée. Bonne chance et j'espère que vous irez mieux bientôt !
I had and an endoscopy done a couple months ago because I was getting food stuck when swallowing. Immediately after I had a very sore throat, difficulty swallowing, which was expected and chest discomfort. I had a few things going on, Including a Schatzki's Ring which he opened. It has been a couple months now and I still have chest discomfort. During my follow up, the doctor said what I am feeling has nothing to do with what he did, and to check with the cardiologist. I am under a cardiologist care now going through lots of tests, ruling out the heart and gallbladder.
Has anybody experience this chest discomfort this long after your endoscopy and what was the cause?
Thank you in advance for whatever experience and advice you could give me.

J'ai subi une endoscopie haute avec quelques biopsies hier. Je ressens des symptômes similaires à des douleurs thoraciques/indigestion comme ceux que vous décrivez. Cela ressemble aussi à quelque chose qui est coincé dans ma poitrine lorsque j'avale ou mange.
J'ai juste besoin d'être rassuré que cela pourrait simplement être de l'air piégé dans le ventre ou la poitrine ? Ou si quelqu'un d'autre peut apporter un éclairage.

Please tell me this for better for you. I just had my endoscopy yesterday and I'm having the exact symptoms. The doctor didn't seem concerned.
I'm so glad I found this discussion as I am having the same problem! Had an endoscopy 2 days ago where they took some biopsies and also the doc said he stretched the esophagus a little. (I was still groggy from the anesthesia and didn't ask him if it actually needed to be stretched!) Anyhow, I had an endoscopy 10 years ago with zero after effects. But this time when I eat anything, as it reaches the point around the sternum, it feels like glass is going down - just sore and irritated. I did call the doc who said "Gee, I never heard of that, doesn't sound serious." Sheesh! From reading this thread, sounds like some other people have had this same thing which helps put my mind at ease a little. The reason for the endoscopy was I was having mild swallowing problems, where food was getting stuck in my throat, but I could get it down with additional swallows or some liquid. Now it seems I've traded a mild problem for something worse! At least I didn't have any pain before.
Puisque d'autres lisent encore ce post, je vais faire un commentaire. Il y a 10 ans, j'ai également subi une endoscopie digestive haute et basse sans effets secondaires, à part quelques gaz embarrassants dus à la procédure basse et un léger mal de gorge.
Avant-hier, j'avais un morceau de porc coincé dans mon œsophage. J'ai attendu environ 16 heures avant d'aller aux urgences car c'était un samedi soir et je ne voulais pas y aller avec tous les fous. En fait, j'espérais qu'il passerait tout seul. D'après les images de l'endoscopie, il était bloqué à environ un pouce au-dessus de mon estomac, bien que la douleur que j'avais et la petite quantité d'eau que je pouvais avaler me faisaient penser qu'il était juste en dessous de la pomme d'Adam. Les 12 premières heures après la procédure sont un flou complet. 24 heures plus tard, j'avais à peine mal à la gorge, mais j'ai gardé mon alimentation à base de flocons d'avoine, de crème de blé, etc. Maintenant, à 48 heures, tout mon œsophage est aussi douloureux que ma gorge après avoir mangé un repas de purée de hachis Parmentier, pas du tout épicé. Au fil des ans, j'ai compris que les médecins n'entendent pas souvent cette plainte car elle est généralement stoppée au bureau des infirmières parce que ce n'est pas "sérieux". Mais c'est une douleur réelle, et si je ne m'y attendais pas, je serais inquiet. Je me demande quelle est la différence entre il y a 10 ans et il y a deux jours... Est-ce le médecin ou le patient? Mon médecin habituel était-il plus doux? Ou suis-je maintenant plus fragile?
I just found this thread from a google search about pain after endoscopy! I had one about five years ago and don’t remember having any kind of discomfort afterwards. I just had another today and coming out of anesthesia I immediately told the nurse and then my doctor about pain in my chest - it feels kind of like heartburn except not as acidy, because I hadn’t eaten anything in 12 hours. She told me it might be reflux which was confusing, because I’ve never had reflux that comes on this long after eating and the pain came on following the procedure. she told me to go home and work on an anti-reflux diet. ??? I had some pasta, which I think helped a little, but the pain is still there. Like another said, it’s behind my sternum and this thread has calmed me out of thinking it was a serious complication and instead I’m hoping it’s just some air that got stuck.

J'ai mal chaque fois que je mange ou bois, c'est supportable mais c'est ennuyeux. J'espère que vous verrez ceci. Je suis vraiment inquiet à ce stade. On me dit que ce n'est pas grave, mais je le suis, surtout parce que cela n'a pas été discuté comme un effet secondaire avant ou après la procédure. Merci !
Hi Jessica! Yes it did. It resolved within a few days. Just drink lots of smoothies, broth, and water 
seriously I was so stressed about it and then I woke up a few days later and it was gone. Don’t be worried!!!

I had the endoscopy yesterday and biopsy as well, tissue were taken from three places. I was normal just after 30 minutes. But after 4-5 hours I started feeling little discomfort in my chest, feeling like someone put cold water in my chest (Food pipe). I called my Dr today, he said nothing happen after Endoscopy. Even I forgot to remind him that my endoscopy involved biopsy as well. Anyway.
I was little panicked having discomfort in my chest after endoscopy and added salt to it after talking to my doctor. Now after reading this discussion I am feeling comfortable though I am visiting my doctor today.
