I was doing fair on two Tramadol 50mg a day with just Paracetamol mid day. I had an infection which exacerbated my overall pain and then returned to three a day. Sometimes I do a coctail of paracetamol and enantyum with the Tramadol. I have been taking the Tramadol for about six weeks now. What do you guys think is an appropriate method of getting away from these meds, when, and with what progress. My mo is to take meds prior to experiencing pain because if I wait for the pain, then I wait longer for the pain to disappear. I will wait until I can sleep well on my sides before quitting the sleeping medication. You would think that as an OLD hippy, I would want more than less but the opposite is true.
Hi Ducksoup. It probably is a good idea to try and cut down on the pain killers over a period of time. If you do not wait for the pain how do you know it will come? What sleeping medication are you taking?
Hi there, my experience was that pain can really interfere with the physio but at the same time, I was like in adaze, stupid Stu and could not take the risk of driving. It is a fine balance but started cutting back by Hal every week and only took .5 mg morphine so I could get some pain free rest and I combine morphine with Tylenol whole weaning myself off. It was not an experience I want to repeat. I was without sleeping for 2 weeks once I finished the morphine. I tried medical marijuana for a month and then tapered off. I am now painkiller free. I do have to take an anti inflammatory for the arthritis in my other joints. Best of luck
Noctamid 1mg. It is a sedative hypnotic class drug and I think a benzo. I have cut it to a 1/2 and in a couple of weeks to 1/4 then none. I cannot sleep on my back and I am still uncomfortable on my non operated side.
Hi, you wont have to wait for the pain, it is just there from the moment you come round from the operation, but it does get easier, and slowly goes away, and then you realise you are in pain and it is causing you not walk properly, so you medicate again, finding out just how many and how long the pills take to work, and how long they work for you quickly you will get used to using it proactively, and sensibly.
When I had my operations I never skimped on the pain Meds, as you never know how much pain you will be in.
Even with the pain Meds, it never took the whole pain away, but made it bearable, especially for the first two weeks until the dressing comes off, and that was the same on both occasions.
I was on 4 and 6, 50mg trammies a day and that kept the pain down to bearable and allowed me to get up and out with my crutch and walking stick. I still use Tramadol now, even two and a half years after the operations whenever I need to, and nowhere near the same number each week.
I have never felt high on them, or euphoric in any way whatsoever, they are a very good pain killer, that's all.
I guess Junkies would take a handful of them, with half a bottle of Hard Tack, and go into a sleepy state of delusion for a few hours, but that is abusing medicine, and I am sure that you will not be able to get enough of them as a Controlled Drug to experiment, but as an older person, you will have grown out of the fascination stage of drug abuse I guess, as you hinted at that part of your personality, in your message, I hope all goes to plan in your healing as mine has gone extremely well but I managed my recovery from the operations and the pain, and the preoperative, very severe pain with the painkillers not without them.
Fortunately, I was able to get back to two Tramadol 50’s a day today. A close friend of mine is a pharmacist stateside and has informed that rarely does the drug cause withdrawal in under 1000mg a day and that the usual pain dose is around 300mg. Of course, I look forward to 0mg. What might complicate the issue is impending back surgery next month. The good thing with back surgery is that the pain goes away after a few days.
You MUST take your time when cutting out the pain meds, the last thing you want to do is stop suddenly. I dropped one Tramadol a day until I was off them - I found I was craving the next one just before I was due to take it
After 5 weeks, I am taking only 2, or 100mg a day now. We’re all different my friend. I was taking Diliban 3x day for three months prior to surgery with no withdrawal issues. I am a retired psychologist and have a fear of being dependent upon opiates, like many of my clients were
How true, we all react differently to drugs. Like you I didn't want to become dependent on Tramadol.
I was in Amsterdam when my cracked hip first starting kicking my butt.. I just scored some edibles but they did not decrease the intensity of the pain. I am only six weeks out and have been walking a mile or two a day with a cane as my security blanket. Today I tried 1000mg of Paracetamol instead of Tramadol when I awoke. I had only been missing my 2pm dose but had a wild hair to cut out more. That was 7 hours ago and the pain is tolerable.
