I am suffering from pain in my left arm (had a rhr and think that in the early days may have put too much weight on it and perhaps twisted it I cant take a lot of weight on it now which is a bit of a problem 3 weeks post op. It feels quite weak as well as painful. I am having my next physio next Tuesday so may ask them about it, Has anyone else had this and any recommendations as to what I can do. Thanks
Yes, julia, I had that two weeks ago when I was walking a lot with crutch in left hand (right hip replaced) I downsized to a stick and that meant I was putting less weight on it and also making the buttock on the right side doa bit more work.
It seems better now. The pain was down the arm, in the collarbone and up the neck.
I began to think I might be heading for a heart attackbut I am always a bit of a pessimist.
It is possible ... I never used crutches but 4 wheel walker - somehow that was recommended because I live alone and perhaps less prone to falling ..
at some point I was convinced that I had arthiritis in my hands and wrists ...
well, apparently I was holding on to the handles for dear life - leaning on it too ...
amazing how tied and cramped up one can be when starting out walking again ...
right now I have tendinitus in my right arm/elbow - nasty, as I can't do much - it is painful and weak ... I think that excessive knitting might have caused this -
unfortunately my physical therapist is not interested in doing anything about it -
I know it is not hip related, but is there someone with a similar problem and what can I do about it ????
Yes I am sure it was originally caused by gripping the sticks too hard, I have always had 2 sticks from day 2 the hospital gave them to me before I had the op! I did wonder about arthritis or tendonitis too, although no swelling.,I am on the computer a lot even though I am not at work, keeping in practice haha. I would like to say love all your posts you are always so positive and helpful.
I'm sorry to hear you have tendonitis ( Pain and weakness in the right arm, and I presume you're right handed, well it affects everything. Recovery is so much more than just the hip. We do things to amuse ourselves but overuse other muscles. This seems to crop up so often on this forum.
So how are you going now? A few weeks ago the muscles in your legs were giving pain. Are you able to do things or are you feeling a bit bored or stuck. Can you drive?
You give so much to so many people here, and I know you are much appreciated. But you're going through it too!
I think it is called a "knitting elbow" - yig ... can't do a lot with my arm - hurts a lot , you see - yes, I am right handed - openening a jar or even turning the steering wheel ...sad, isn;t it - oh well -
I feel as if I live in a cocoon - weird and surreal at times -
I made an appointment for next Tuesday with Home Care here in the village to see about some volunteer work ...
still need to help lift my left leg to get in the car , but it is getting better ..
and getting used to the cold and damp here ...cold to the bone ....
These arm problems can be soooo annoying and debilitating. At least you can type! I got 'knitting elbow' when I was 25 right in the middle of a jumper. My neighbour had to finish it and I haven't knitted since. But it's a lovely repetetive warm activity.
The heat has dropped off again. We seem to have a few very hot days in Spring but it doesn't last. Another bout on Thursday at 37 but we got a cool change around 3pm. I don't like it, but think I would prefer it to that cold damp chilled to the bone. I hate it when I can't get warm. Especially when you're not used to it.
