Pain in bum

I am now 8 weeks post op and have developed a  shooting pain in my bum..the side of the op. Not all the time but enough to put me back on painkillers. I have been discharged but still find I look awkward when walking..and am lop sided.  Fine on 2 crutches..speedy in fact but on one  ( as I am told I now should be) decidedly 'drunken sailor roll'.

I have been off this site for 4 weeks and now found it again.  It is so supportive and I see posts from patients at the stage I was pre op...and know the newer hippies will gain confidence and support.  Hi to any of the hippies that supported me 8 weeks ago.

Funnily enough Alice I couldn't manage with one crutch it made me so lob-sided my physioterrorist gave me a walking stick which was much better.

As for the pain in your butt that is normal and a healing prossess with all the nerves and muscles getting better and being used again after being cut and re-stitched.

The more you do it will get easier all the time. xx

Hi Alice

If it does not improve go and see an osteopath - mine sorted me out with a lot complicated secondary problems that the (initially) junior physio over simplified. It took massage, exercise and tens machine to get rid of my bum pains.

Hopefully you wont need this advice - good luck xx

Hi Alice

There is no 'should' when it comes to getting off crutches. The crutches aren't the problem, it's that the correct muscles aren't strong enough yet.

Try to walk as normally as possible going heel toe and progressively putting less weight on the crutches and more on your legs. This way you build up the correct muscles. Wait till you outgrow the second crutch but can still walk properly before moving on to the next stage.

It's such a journey this recovery business.

I go for my op on Monday so scarred of what's to come did any of you feel the same please I need encouragement

Lucite...i was terrified. Im now 7 weeks and would do it again tomorrow. .

Hi dear Ali2,

wow girl, 8 weeks already !!! me too, from 2nd THR ...

Kikeena has started a thread : "walking again"  -

It is possible that you might not walk correctly - I know I didn't and learning to walk properly, perhaps for the 1 st time in my life -

There is so much involved in walking I never thought about -

Pain in bum (now on both sides ) , around knees, shins, around ankles ...

I still take my trolley with me when I go for a walk outside - not too sure and unbalanced to walk with just my cane ...

good luck - it is a chore, trust me - but I know it will pay off big time -

easy does it, sweetheart -

let us know how you are getting on -

big warm hug

renee

dear lucite,

I am pretty sure that we all felt scared, even terrified !!! (unless THR surgery is an emergency due to fall or something) -

unfortunately nothing anyone will say can take that away -

Do your breathing exercises and  accept what is ...

this has really helped me and still there were many moments that I totally freaked out ....

You can start a new discussion if you need more support and encouragement -

know that you are loved,

big warm hug

Dear Lucite..I was so sacred and shaking and behaving generallyin a drama qween way..the nurses were lovely and now I realise they see this all the timel and I am sure everyone is scared. even when they say not..Before I knew it I was waking up and it was all over. I am now 8 weeks on,,but this site helped me day and night before as I knew someone would be reading the posts during night when it is the most lscarey as you lie and think..  Keep looking at this site and it will help  so much.  I told my consultant about it as better than all the leaflets.

Hi Sassy...I have been discharged at 7 weeks not to be seen again unless I am re referred by GP!  Sacrey as hoped I would been seen again at 3 months...pain in bum isn't all the time mainly at night..but now at last on my side so sleeping better but not as good as prior to hip..I have got rid of all th aids except one crutch and the cock puller on thing.  When I bend I do the golfers straight leg ting..what a pillock I must look but as I live alone so its only the cats I risk kicking!

Lovely to be back on this site.

Dear Pre Hippie ,

Chin up..I was told it wouldn't as bad on this site when I was nervous like you.  They were right.  Very soon you will be back on this site reassuring new pre op Hippies.  The post op pain is not nearly as bad a pre op I am told. ( Ihad very little pre op pain so whinged a bit about the post op).

Keep posting it really helps.  Someone somewhere will be logged.
