pain in knee after fall(s)

I fell heavily on to my right knee back in October last year on to tiled floor..

It hurt like hell at the time and I did have some localized bruising..the initial pain went off but I fell again about two weeks ago (and it was bruised) and since then I've had some quite painful twinges in my knee...I've also felt a difference between the knees in that I can feel something moving in and around the knee joint. I've got a telephone consultation tomorrow with the GP...I never got my knee xrayed after either fall so I am wondering if I should have.

Has anyone ever had this after a fall or other injury?

Not specifically after a fall, but years ago I had that feeling. . it was pieces of cartilage moving around in the joint.  the damage could have been caused by falls, of which I've had a few, or just due to wear and tear.  I really think you should have a mri to see what the damage is, because it could just be a feeling caused by inflammation . . better to know what's causing it.

The answer to that question is yes you should have had the injury xrayed when the accident first occurred, and now that you have fallen again I would suggest that it is definitely time to get it looked-at.

It might be a simple case of anterior knee pain syndrome, or because you say you can feel something moving in the knee joint it could be a patellar (kneecap) fracture.

Whatever the case it needs attention - soon.

I fell about the same time as you but didn't have any pain for about 3 weeks then the inflammation kicked in. I got back to the Dr right away. Xrays were taken as well as blood work. No structural damage but inflammation markers were up. He pute back in therapy for about 5 weeks then redid the blood work. The markers were up by 20% +. Last week they did a needle drain of the fluid and sent it in for lab analysis......... It showed positive for a strain of staph. Next week I have to have the knee reopened, all of the hardware removed, flushed, medicated, a spacer inserted, a PICC line installed for 2 months of antibiotic infusion and put in an immobilizer for 3 months, then reopened and a new prosthesis inserted and the rehab to start all over. This will bring the total of operations on this leg to 11. Of course this is me and my case is unique but the moral of the story, don't let things hang on with the hope they will fix their selves. Get professional assessment ASAP. Head off the possibility of bad stuff building up

Omg poor you!! That's horrendous!!

To all who replied..thanks...

I'm not one for going to the GP as a rule and as I have been walking around on it I honestly didn't see the urgency...however the painful twinges have become more persistent so I will speak to the GP tonight

Thank you all for your feedback and I hope you're all on the mend!!

Yes I fell and ignored it.  It became worse snd I had ended with torn cartilage, had arthroscopy.  I hope you get this sorted out, I had MRI and X-ray.

Hi all..I spoke to the GP tonight..I've got an appointment tomorrow..

well i went to the gp, i havent had much pain the last couple of days to be honest and there is only slight tenderness over one side, gp thinks i've chipped something off the patellar tendon but didnt want to do any x rays or other tests, he said it should clear up in time, he's given me some voltarol gel which i use for my sciatica

hopefully that's it!

thanks again for all your replies
