Pain in right knee after right hip replacement

I am now 8 weeks from having a right total hip operation but for the last week have noticed when I have been relaxing in the chair that when I stand up the pain in my right knee is very painful to the point I limp for at least 2 minutes. The pain is worse than the pain I was in before my operation

wow, more pain than before your hip! After Id had my op, I got pain when first standing after relaxing but down my upper thigh as if it was where the prosthetic was in the bone. It wore off quite quickly when I started moving. I read somewhere to try stamping my foot would help, and it did! hope this helps

I would be very dubious about doing that as it may well dislodge or move the stem deeper than your surgeon had intended. It takes quite a time for the bone to grow into the prosthesis and whilst this is happening unless you have a cemented prosthesis which is rather unlikely unless perhaps you are sixty plus or have a special situation then you need to exercise. care! Cheers, Richard

hi karen, i had dreadful pain in my knee for the fist 8wks, i was beginning to think i had a knee problem as well but it does start to wear off. i am now 16 wks and ive had no problem now for 3 wks so dont worry you will be fine. your knee does go through it when they repace your hip.

I also had the standing up thing after sitting , and was bit concerned. It took something like ten days to completely disappear.

Sorry to hear this Karen. I am five weeks post-op and have had knee pain since my surgery. I had NO pain prior to my surgery. I am having an MRI this Thursday. I think they mucked up my knee in the OR

Hi Sue

Thank you for your comment. That makes me feel better. I didn’t get this pain after my other hip was replaced so maybe I’m expecting too much. Thank you everyone for your help

Hi Ellen
I hope everything goes okay for you

Thanks Karen, this has been so hard, because walking is a problem now. I was very active prior to my second hip surgery five weeks ago. This knee pain is driving my crazy. It was so intense. I am doing knee PT and I hope that I am not making it worse.

Hi

That sounds horrible. I am only in pain with my knee when I have sat. It is when I first try to walk but then the pain eases. Very weird as I was fine before had my operation. I hope you get sorted.

could it be water retention? when I sit with my leg lowered water seems to build quickly . I am 5 weeks post op and still getting water retention. exercise and bending the knee back seems to help

Def not water or fluid. Have been to the doctor four times in six weeks. MRI is done hopefully I will get some answers this week. I am sick of being in pain 24/7
