Hi there , for the last six months I have had the most excruciating, burning - type pain on the sole of my right foot. X-rays, MRIs etc of the foot indicate that it is fine - there is no inflamation, arthritis etc . However a recent lumbar MRI showed a herniated L5 disc pressing on the S1 nerve. Could this give pain ONLY in my foot ? I have no pain in my back or down my leg ? My doctor seems to think this is possible but I am a bit sceptical !! Any thoughts ?
Hi,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems. From my experience anyhting is possible once these nerves are up set or damaged. I have had 3 micro discectomies and now have pain deadness and numbness in my right foot. There has been pain in my back and my right leg, but I have learnt that these things come and go, and there does not appear to be any logical theory to these things. I don't know where you are in the country, but I would definitely not go near a consultant called Mr Germon at Derriford hospital, he done the worse damage possible, and is one of the most arrogant men I have ever met. It is a disaster zone in that hospital, don't believe there website, it is totally misleading, about much they care. So from my experience I would say it is quite possible just to have the symptoms you are discribing.
I do hope you can get it sorted
Gary
Hi friend. In a word yes, a prolapsed disc can only affect your foot. Everyones pain is different as regards l5/s1. I empathize for your pain, however 6 months is not forever, as long as there is no extrusion of material your back has a good chance to recover. Try gentle mackenzie stretches and keep using your back, dont be afraid to get some blood pumping through that pesky disc as its often a good remedy. Let us all know how you are getting on and the very best of luck to you.
Yes in my experience that is very possible- because I have a prolapsed disc and had a bad turn on Friday-and my pain has shifted from my back (Fri) to my back, buttocks and backs of both legs down to the knees (Sat and Sun), to one full leg (Mon), to now just my left leg from the knee downwards. I am getting numbness, pins and needles, coldness, and then periods of a burning feeling- and today it was centred much more on my foot and calf. My MRI showed L5 had prolapsed. I have hardly been able to walk since Friday afternoon
