I've stopped taking some of my pain meds but when will the pain really
stop
Morning Daffi! I'm wondering the same......😞😩. I'm 2 weeks & 4 days now and I still can't put full weight on my leg!! Maybe 20/40% because of pain. I'm still on pain meds was taking Norco now dr has prescribed Tramadol. I cry almost every day now...I'm here at home by myself hubby went back to work. I don't want him to see me cry. I'm getting a blister on my left hand from the pressure I'm putting on my left hand using my walker not to mention my shoulders are hurting too. I wish you the best and hope you get to feeling better. 🤗🤗hugs
Hi daffI
I had thr on 27th July I stopped taking pain relief yesterday the only pain iv got is around the cut from bruising and swelling which I can cope with the pain relief was upsetting my stomach so already feel a lot better
I am 5 weeks but I had a complication nerve damage . I take my tramndol in the morning and night still . It helps move my leg to excerise to wake my nerve up .
That certainly is one of the big questions! There are many types of aches and pains as we move through the healing process. I never appreciated all the different types and layers of connective tissues in our bodies and particularly those connected to our hips. And then there are all the other joints and muscles that assist in walking that are having to readjust to our new posture and gait ... lots of them.
So ... if you mean the pain at the incision or the femur and pelvis, that went away at about 4 weeks for me. But the tissues in the glutes, adductos, abductors, etc. took much longer and I am still getting 'feedback' from other joints at 5 months. I have hear d that it takes a year to recover fully from this operation, others have suggested two years ...
But all of this is really individual - depends on your health otherwise, type of surgical approach used (and how gently your hip was 'disengaged', and of course ... how committed you have been to your restrictions and excerises. This last is pretty key. Even five months post, if I don't do my daily exercises, I know it the next day.
Good luck and ... be patient with your body ... this a tough operation.

I think your worring to much hanging on to tight to your walker and pressing down to hard on the walker to move forward . Is why the blister and shoulder .. Relax , slow . Focuse . Stand up straight when you walk . Don't be afraid to step down on that hip . Yes it may hurt . But you need to get moving to heal . My hip loves movement . I am so stiff in the morning once I get moving its like its talking to me ,, thank you ... I think your afraid of your new hip .. If you excerise like your suspto , walk , go slow .your going to see a big difference . You went thru a major surgery .. It's your part now to get better ..
Thank you Georgia.....I'm trying!! It's hard and overwhelming!
Hi Linda - I think Georgia gave you good advice. I might also try taping some foam padding around the handles of your walker and ask your husband to get you sone of the bandaids specially designed for blisters to protect your hands.
Big hugs,
Linda
i know it is . I ended up with femroal nerve damage my leg is numb and cant not feel from below the knee to the thigh it weight like 50 lbs after surgery.
getting back to you ; when I got home my husband said where are you going to sleep I said up stairs. he said your arent going to climb thoses stairs yes I am I went up 19 stairs with his help. he thinks today that this help me regain my strenght. I feel like a hip replament is like dentures you have to bit right down. it a titiam hip "its strong" every week taht you move you will see a difference and get confident " I am doing this ". its all baby steps . be concious when walking and using the devises. stand stright for your back . walk slow and steady . keep that leg stright and been your knee. your trying to learn to walk all over . trust me it doesnt take long to strengthen it .. hugs
Thank you!! 😊🤗🤗
Hi Linda,
Thank you for your reply, I could have had a cry today, it all just gets
me down sometimes, so I understand how you feel. My pain feels
like bone pain, I've been for a short walk when I came in the pain started
I have stopped 4 painkillers and only take co-codamol.
Thank u Linda! 🤗🤗
I hope all gets better for us both! Big hugs!! 🤗🤗
Hi Linda,
I have been for a short walk but when I got home the pain felt like
bone pain, I have stopped taking 4 painkillers so only taking co-codamol
I think my problem is I'm not a sit down person really so this is killing
me not to be active
Hi there your only just over 2 weeks post op I'm just 4weeks and can't put full weight on new hip your expecting to much to soon think what you've been threw just give it time and do those exercises rest is just as important ,only this week I managed to lift my operated leg on the bed with any pain. Wishing you well and hugs .
Daffi, I think the answer is .......... It depends.
It depends on a number of factors, like the skill of your surgeon, the way your body reacts to this barbaric invasion, your tolerance to pain, and sheer luck.
I tried to do without my painkillers after a few days, and found I really did not need them, but I an mot one for routinely taking pills even for headaches.
Best wishes

Thank you Anna! I know ur right. But some hippies seem to be doing so well at early stage, no pain, using crutch......I keep thinking why am I not getting better?? I know I got to stop comparing myself to everyone else, we are all different with different stories. The dr did say my hip surgery was not going to be "ur run of hill hip" but I still can't help feeling like I'm not doing so well. Thanks again for the encouragement!! 🤗
I'm sure you will be fine give it time says she who wants to do everything yesterday. It is difficult
I'm someone who's on the go all the time or used to be. I've been worried about my scar area as it's hot and tender all the time I'm putting bi oil on it
but aparantly it can be like this for weeks if not months you do tend to worry about the smallest
of things, we will get there it's just going to take time .hugs Anna xxx
hello daffi,
great responses ... it is overwhelming, isn't it ... but as said , you are in early stage of healing - I was advised to take pain medication to stay on top of pain - which means as prescribed , in order to be able to move - pain can cause fear and is exhausting - most of us want to stop taking the pain meds too soon and end up doing less because of pain -
in addition we also are on this emotional roller coaster - the tears coming out of the blue, the bouts of desperation and sadness ---
the only thing I can tell you to do is to accept where you are right now - to be okay with crying and be gentle with yourself - you have already come a long way, you know ....
come here anytime you want to ask a question, have a concern or just want to share your feelings --- we know ....
big warm hug
