Painkillers (Morphine) 🙄

Hiya fellow hippie’s…

Had TRHR last October, was going well for a couple of months, then got lots of pain from my left hip, need to get into hospital this year for a Left THR. Thing is the pain im in at the moment is up there on my pain scale, so I was wanting to ask if anyone had been on the Morphine like painkillers, I’m currently on tramadol and codeine, too many other tablets to list…just asking how folk got on with the strongest painkillers, I’m in doctors this week for a chat
As ever many thanks for the help..

Pete..

Here is my take on your situation. Dr.s tend to make sure that you are pain free after thr. The problem with that is you really are unable to feel what your hip wants to tell you so you tend to do things that your hip is not ready to do as of yet. Just because you don,t feel it …doesn,t mean its not there. I am 2 weeks post revision and doing as well as expected. I was on tramadol for 1 week and asked myself how was I to know if I was doing well If I was unable to feel it? So I stopped tramadol and the REAL Pain was noticed..I realized that my hip wasnt near ready for what I was doing,so Stopped all Pain Meds and now am clearly able to listen to my hip..backed off alot and just taking my time, you may find that being on an opiod for that long may be harder to stop taking it because it only takes 5 days to get addicted to them, My suggestion …GET OFF TRAMADOL,Slow down and let hip heal properly,it will hurtbut it will also tell you when you overdue it,Hope you havent caused more damage because you couldnt feel it…Good Luck it will take time

Hi Pete,
I am still waiting to hear from the hospital regarding mainly my right hip, but also now having huge problems with both knees.
I was started on Codein , from there to Tramadol plus a further 3 strong painkillers before my last appointment with the Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon. I discussed the fact that nothing was working for me and I was in accute pain!!
He prescribed a man made Morphine which he promised would work.!!!I was to start on 25 mg per day, going up to a maximum of 500mg per day should the pain be severe enough.. they too did nothing to help me. I am beside myself with pain, and don’t know which way to turn. I cant walk, stand still, never get a nights sleep…I have tried absolutely everything.
So sorry I cant be more helpful to you Pete. Sincerely hope they help you !!

Hi Pete,
at my 10 week review, I told my surgeon of my groin pain and hip pain and how I felt it held back my recovery of my left hip replacement. He pencilled me in straight away for my next op. Was down for 14th March but has been brought forward to 6th.
I was given a gym referral by my GP, which is helping, been doing that since week 3 post op. Gaining in strength and confidence on different machines. I started back on phased return to work last week. I ache a lot in the evening and have gone back to taking codeine and paracetamol which was the only meds that have been prescribed for me. Ended up getting H pylori from taking Diclofenic before my first op.
Good luck. Hope you get sorted asap!

hi the other side I do understand those who need to feel the pain as a judgement to where they are in regards to recovery or doing to much. However I have been on zomorph skow release for 6 years, as without it I could not carry on with my life, my part time work, granted the hip has enabled mobility but arthritis is everywhere, and this is my second hip having had the first at age 38 . I like others thought I must get off these strong drugs, consultant even took me in theatre to check under local that it was the hip by trying to inject steriod, I could not stand the pain of the key hole , he just said it is a messy hip. A pain consultant told me I would not get a high, from the meds as they busy doingtheir job he was right.

No one needs to be in pain, where you feel so upset, cant do anything , look terrible I myself decided i would rather , take meds and live a life.

As always you have to decide what you need for yourself and never feel ashamed of taking medication, its used for a reason. Equally everyone’s hips or knee are different , the damage if unique to yourself, arthritis might be one joint or many joint.

we all need to justbe kind to ourselves xxxx

I’m exactly like you I’m in so much pain waiting for this op I finely got got date but I’m in so much pain and don’t get much sleep so I feel for you

I hated Tramadol, each time I go to within 30-60 minutes of the next dose, I found I was craving it. I was switched to codeine and I was fine. Both produce the dreaded constipation for me though.

Hiya Crisps..
You sound like someone who’s been there and back and got a few T-Shirts, Just picked up my next batch of tramadol, doctors gave me 200 qty this time, last me a while. Hope you all manage to get painkillers when it’s needed, I’m in doctors end of the week, c what they say then..

Best regards… Pete
