Persistent bad taste in mouth for months - GERD related or not

For some time (8 – 12 weeks say) I have had a strange/unpleasant taste in the mouth much of the day and night. Sometimes it has been more noticeable than others. I notice when I wake up in middle of the night, or late morning, sometimes in evening. Most recently it seems to be more and more such that I am never away from it. I have been unable to affect it by diet or other means. Eating may temporarily get rid of it, but it comes back soon after. I tried probiotics to no avail. I tried alcohol to no avail. It does not seem to be affected by circumstances: I had it for weeks before a recent operation, and I have now afterwards. I have had GERD for many (16) years or so. I have taken lansoprazole for extended periods. 18 months ago I was diagnosed with Barretts and was told to take lansoprazole for life. 3 months ago I was told that I DIDN'T have Barretts and I could take lansoprazole as and when I saw fit. 10 days ago I decided to drop the lansoprazole completely. I have occasional reflux issues but nothing major - but maybe this bad taste is one(?) My dentist has checked - no thrush. Blood test for diabetes negative. I am struggling to know what is the cause and what to do - please does anyone have any good advice/knowledge/ideas? Has my many years of lansoprazole given me a permanent issue? Thanks
