In November of 2017 I had a total hip replacement and afterwards during physical therapy my therapist tied a large rubber band around my thigh then wrapped the other end around his waist. He slowly backed up pulling my femur out of the acetabulum slightly. A couple of days later I developed a hematoma about the size of an orange. 160cc of serosangious fluid was removed. A few days after that, all the progress that I had made 3 to 4 weeks post THR, the pain got so bad to where I had to stop physical therapy altogether. I later learned that this procedure that was done to me was contraindicated for people who had recently underwent a THR. Do any of you know the medical term for the procedure I just described? It’s some type of joint reduction or something like that. And, do any of you know why it shouldn’t be done on THR patients. What happened to me for obvious reasons being one of them. It loosened my new hip device and now I have to have the surgery done again. If you have anything to add, or know a PT that you could ask about this I would appreciate it. I’m a cardio/thoracic RN and my expertise isn’t bones and joints. Thank you so much!
