Today I went physio, he has given me some different excersises to do to get the muscle in my thigh working again. He was very pleased with my progress so far and said that at my age (66) I am doing very well. After having lunch in the car at the hospital (I can think of better places) I went to see the Consultant well his registrar anyway. They too are very pleased with me, I am now allowed to sleep on my side right side with a pillow and left side without. Have to keep the 90 degree in place until I see hime again in November. He has said that I can drive again as soon as I want to. I didn't have an xray done he said it was too soon and he would do one next time. (4 months). Now for the bad news, my other hip is also playing up he said due to the strain of this one being done and to make an appointment with my GP to get a referral so that we can discuss when the other one is done. I have to say I had a slight feeling this was going to happen as I have been getting some pain in my other hip. So have the next one to look forward to... and here was me thinking it would all be over in this year and next year I can get my decorating and my garden back up to date ........ Love Gillxxx
That's good news apart from the other hip. Another 4 months of 90 degrees will be difficult, as you feel and move better it will get more and more difficult to remember.
I am going to the physio via occupational health next week, desperate to get rid of my pronounced limp, but at least, as my daughter says, I can hobble fairly fast!
well done sounds really good. I was told at my appointment on monday with consultant (i am5 weeks post op) that I need my other one doing. I am not sure when to have it done as could get it in October but not sure if too soon but at least get everything over and done with this year. I also havepain in my other hip now too. What exercises did they give you? I have just been given strengthening for the operated leg.
lay on the bed on your side support yourself on your elbow place a pillow between your legs. roll top hip slightly use top arm to support yourself. keeping the leg straight lift it up towards the ceiling. Make sure that the stays in line with your body and toew point forward. get someone to support your leg and assist if necessary. repeat 10-12times.
Lay on your back with a slippery bag /board under your leg. Place a band around your legs. Take your leg out to the side and then back to mid position. repeat 10-12times.
Dear Gill ... I had the same news when I saw my surgeon on May 13 - An x-ray was taken and sowed the rapid decline of the cartilage in left hip ...I was devastated and you are so calm !!!! I thought thayt I was abnormal, or at least my hips were ....
bt hanks to my fellow hippie friends here, my mind was put to rest and, well, dare I say this ...looking forward to get the other THR surgery .... there are a lot of us here - will be interesting ...
That sounds like good progress and at least when you get the other one done you will be able to do loads!
I found it quite a strain on my other hip which was replaced 15 years ago this time as well for the first few weeks. Fortunately it seems to have settled down now.
Great to hear you have had some restrictions lifted- not so good about other hip but at least you will be monitored and hopefully you can get it done before it is too bad
Glad you've survived the day ALMOST unscathed. Not good news about your other hip though. At least next time you'll know just what to expect. Keep on improving!
It's good news over all...I am sorry the other hip is painful now.At least we know what to expect the second time around. Next week I am going for my check up, I wonder if they are going to send me for some physio as well...
