Hi, I have been diagnosed with a Plantar Fibroma. It is not painful as such but I had pain in my foot for another reason which was causing me problems. Now pretty much resolved. So the problem I have is I am falling over and it is obviously a nuisance and dangerous. I fell a few weeks ago and gave myself mild concussion and then fell again two days ago onto my back and crushed my neck and spine. Very painful.
So the podiatrist I saw says she thinks the plantar fibroma is not the reason for me falling over. The tendon which goes up the same leg is extremely tight and I personally think this is causing tendonitis (swelling on top of foot). Also I read that if the fibroma is big then it can interfere with the working of the foot. It can touch interfere with nerves etc in the foot.
So I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has had a fibroma who could tell me if they have a similar experience? Oh and if so did they manage to get rid of it?? thanks
I have just had surgery to,remove two plantar fibromas from the bottom of my right foot. I tried conservative treatments for 11 months but they continued to grow. So they had to be removed in hopes that I can walk again. They were very painful. I had one on my left foot removed about eight years ago and now have another one forming which I am treating with massage and stretching praying it will go flat and not have to be cut again. Have not found any cause for them yet. Trying to change some of my medicines to see if it is a side effect. I would love to hear is there are others suffering from same problem. Its a hard recovery this time. Seven weeks out and I still can not walk but just a few steps. I have fallen five times over the past year. It throws my balance and alignment of knee and hip out.
Well thanks for that Susan, kind of confirms what I think is going on. Exactly the same experience as you. Balance affected nearly falling over all the time and, as I said, have fallen twice. So not sure why the podiatrist says it is unrelated....can't believe it really. I am pretty sure it is that. Other foot is fine but the right foot with the fibroma is just not working properly. She said it may be something neurological but I just think that's rubbish. You've convinced me even more of that. I had a small one I'm sure on the other foot which went away. But this one is bigger and is more uncomfortable. Sorry to hear about your problems with it. Makes me think now it won't go away on it's own.
When you say you take medication I wonder what for?? I believe the cause of my fibroma is the fact that I have an auto immune disease. It has caused problems with my feet which were so painful I could not wear anything on my feet except the most open sandals. Plaquenil has helped general pain but the fibroma still there nagging away.
I have started with changing my gabapentin. Found some info on internet about Dalantin and fibroma suspected. GAbapentin is an anti seziure med also. None of my other meds seem possible. No inhertant factors and no foot trama. Not a runner Hope you can find relief. I have had several doctors tell me when they will not stretch back out surgery is the only way. Not sure how much they can remove and my feet still walk though.
