Hello!
I had a Bunionectomy and Gastrocnemius recession on my left foot and calf. My doctor was originally supposed to shave down the bone and put a pin in and do the recession. But he ended up actually having to do what he told us was the "second option". So he did the recession and had to cut/break my foot below the bunion (aka not by my toes) but on the top of my foot, he shaved off the bunion and I have one permanent pin and then another that is sticking out of the top of my big toe and on an angle through my foot... (I haven't actually seen it, just the where the blood is on the band aid and the explanation of what the x ray looks like)
I had the surgery on 11/20 (Thurs.) and now it is 11/26 (Wed.), almost a week post op. I am in a walking boot and on crutches. I have been taking 1 1/2 tylenol with codeine every four to five hours during the day, but 2 before bed then 1 ½ again six hours after that (in the middle of the night) then back to normal when I wake up.
Now for the actual questions, I will have to get one of the pins taken out and I am extremely nervous about it. My doctor said it would be removed in office and I will just get nubbing stuff (of whatever sort) and he will just pull the pin out... Has anyone had this done before? If so, how bad was it?
I am also having very strange pain... My foot isn't necessarily numb but where (I am assuming) the stitches are and the top of my big toe is very tight and and sometimes I have a tingly feeling. It is the same feeling I get when I am extremely cold. When the pain meds start to wear off it feels as though there is a 600 lb sumo wrestler standing on the top of my foot. Does this sound normal? If anyone has any advice or any possible idea of what I just explained that would be amazing! Thank you in advance. I have before pictures also if that might be of any help....
