Post op vaginal hystrectomy

I had a vaginal hysterectomy a week ago, i feel fine but constipated, i have had lactolose and ducolax, They told me not to push but i needed to because the first bit that came out was really stuck and hard, Would i have done some damage or just see how i go

You should be fine... It's over stretching or heavy lifting that would cause damage.

I've had constipation issues MOST of my life, had a couple blockages years ago and NOW, I would not be without magnesium in my life....

Then I had some horrible blocking with opiads and got rid of them....not worth the constipation agony.....need to keep moving things out of the body.

Mag is vital and keeps me regular and does much more as well. Read about Magnesium Deficiency.

Prune juice is fantastic for constipation (Sunsweet variety). Half a glass or a full glass at night time before you go to bed. Also plenty of water to keep stools soft - even tepid water with lemon in it. Cut back on Tea / coffee as they dehydrate you. Grapes or tinned prunes are good also - I found the prune juice always helped me move the next day.... Pepperming tea aids digestion and bloating and flatulance (a cup or 2 a day without milk)...

thanks gail was getting worried, i know its only been a week but feel like i have had nothing done, Ha apart from really bad cramping pains everytime i have had anything to eat, Thats the bowels, can i also ask because i have had my cervix and womb taken out they said i have to be careful that my bladder and bowel dont prolapse, i only needed the hysterectomy because my womb had prolapsed

thanks for that joy i will check out the Magnesium

Hi Susan, I'm not an expert on the possibility of bladder or bowel prolapse after a hysterectomy - your Consultant will know more on this so it might be advisable to ask him / her when you see them next or alternatively phone them if it would help ease your mind. They will be able to advise on this and if needs be check that all is grand and everything healing well....
