Hi right anterior 3/15/16. Walked that evening home next day with a cane. No more than Tylenol.Started PT 2 days later . Drove in 1 week. No assistance or cane after 3 wks. About 3 in. Scar. Everyone is different and you need a experienced surgeon with anterior. Good luck
Age 67, out of shape, anterior 3/27/16, out of hospital next day, walker for 12 days, 3 inch scar, Vicodin 4 days, Aleve 5 days, now nothing, can drive but don't feel confident yet. Pt started after day 3 and still 3 sessions to go.
great responses from anterior approach hipsters !!!
I had posterior both time ... I understand that muscles and tendons are not cut with anterior approach which might make the rehab quicker and lot less restrictions since less damage has been done -
other than this, my knowledge is what I read here and on the internet -
Age 53 when I I had my posterior Jan of 2013. I was/am in excellent shape. I dont recall many of the details as many have stated above. I did in home rehab/outside rehab for approx 5 weeks. I was back tro delivering the mail in 7 weeks, not much walking, but enough. I was back to playing racket sports in 3-4 months and back to hockey in 1 yr. I may have to put away my hockey equipment after this surgery !!
I had the posterior approach and that is all that is offerred where I live (BC, Canada). I have heard that the initial recovery is much earlier with the anterior but that at the 3-month time, both are pretty equal in recovery.
